List of Hololive Production talents
Script error: No such module "AfC submission catcheck".
Since its conception in 2017, Hololive Production has had a total of 63 Vtuber talents (with 52 currently active and 11 have "graduated" (retired)). There are many different branches within Hololive Production, including Hololive English, Hololive China (formerly) and Hololive Indonesia, in addition to their Japanese talents. Hololive talents and other related channels have gathered a total of 30 million YouTube subscribers as of 2021, with 14 of their talents surpassing 1 million subscribers as of April 2021. On the list of 10 most super-chatted Youtubers ever, 8 of them are Hololive talents, with 1st place taken by 3rd Generation member Uruha Rushia (having received $2,108,078 from Super Chats as of May 2021).
The talents of each Hololive Branch are scouted or admitted a few at a time, being separated by generations (similar to a typical Japan idol group like Morning Musume). There are currently 7 generations in Hololive Japan (including the unofficial 0th Generation and the sub-generation Hololive GAMERS), 3 generations in Holostars, 2 generations in Hololive China and Indonesia, and 1 generation in Hololive English.
Each talent's character is created by a professional artist commissioned by Hololive, and made to move by a "rigger", both of whom are credited as the talent's "mama/papa" depending on their gender. Each talent also refers to their individual fanbase by a unique name, but frequently call them collectively as listeners on stream.
Hololive Japan[edit]
The talents of Hololive's Japan branch (thereby unofficially referred to as "Hololive Japan") consists of a girls unit (simply called "Hololive") and a boys unit called "Holostars". There also exists a music-focused branch called "INoNaKa MUSIC" with its sole member being AZKi (Hoshimachi Suisei used to be a member of INoNaKa before moving permanently to the main branch). Both AZKi and Suisei, however, are still considered part of the 0th Generation.
0th Generation (Hololive)[edit]
The non-official 0th Generation (0期生, 0-kisei) is a term used (mostly by fans) to refer to the talents that are active as Vtubers outside of Hololive's generation recruitment cycle. Tokino Sora and Roboco are part of an app designed by Hololive's parent company Cover Corp. Once Cover creates Hololive as a Vtuber agency, Sora and Roboco debuted with their own channels. AZKi, originally being recruited for the separate branch INoNaKa music, is now also considered part of this generation. Sakura Miko and Hoshimachi Suisei originally started as as non-Hololive Vtubers before being signed to Hololive, with their debut as Hololive members actually later than the 1st Generation members, but they are still nonetheless considered part of the 0th Generation. While this term is still unofficial, members such as Suisei has started to label themselves as "0th Generation" on their Twitter accounts and even merchandise.
Tokino Sora[edit]
Tokino Sora (ときのそら) is a Vtuber, a member of Hololive Japan's 0th Generation, and the first member to ever debuted as a Hololive member. She debuted her channel on September 7, 2017 to an average audience of only 50 listeners per stream. Out of all Hololive members, she is the only one truly designed as a typical idol, as seen by her uniform-like costume and accessories on her clothes meant for stage performances. She is well known for her kind, happy and easy-going personality, and is often adored by many of her colleagues because of this and also her status as a founding member, with many members revering her almost as a deity. Her content used to be heavily focused on the idol aspect, such as holding singing streams, live concerts and releasing music videos, but nowadays she has done more gaming and talking streams as well as collaborating with other members, while still holding virtual concerts and music events on Japanese streaming platforms such as SPWN. As a true idol, she has one of the best singing voices in Hololive as admitted by many members, especially her fellow 0th Generation member Sakura Miko. She also loves playing the piano and has sometimes hold streams playing them. Funny facts involving Sora is her camera frequently falling down during streams, resulting in her model falling and spinning weirdly, and her fans calling her "Soda-chan", a typical mistranslation of her name due to the fact that her costume colors resemble a Pepsi can. Sora has a bear companion called Ankimo-chan (あん肝) who has his own channel with 20,000 subscribers and only 1 video.
Sora's artist mama/papa was initially ikachi (いかき) (https://twitter.com/I_ecakhi) and is later ordan (おるだん) who also designed Sora's companion Friend A, and is also known for designing many Fire Emblem characters. Sora's fanbase is called "Soratomo" (そらとも) , coming from "Sora no tomodachi", or Sora's friends. Sora exclusively uses 3D models, designed by schwartz. Her brithday is May 15th. Her name, Tokino Sora, roughly translates as "Sky of Time".
Sora's channel reached 100 subscribers on October 26th, one month after her debut. 4 years later, her subscriber count is currently over 750,000 (as of May 2021).
Friend A[edit]
Friend A (友人A, Yuujin A), frequently called A-chan by both fans and members alike, is the head manager and equipment technician of all Hololive talents and is the representative of Hololive background staff in general with her own Vtuber model. She is a friend of Sora in real life even before their Hololive debut, and originally debuted in Sora's channel as a "helper" and assistant to her videos, her role expanded as more and more talents are added to Hololive with her now handling business related matters for Hololive as well as assisting in the background with technical and sound issues. As the staff representative of Hololive, she received her own Live2D model and now appears as a Vtuber occasionally, even doing collaborations with other members as well as holding her own streams on Hololive's official channel. She even receives her own 3D model and appears in some of Sora's 3D concerts. She is noted to be very talented, able to expertly handle motion capture technology, as well as even mixing music and creating songs posted on the Hololive channel. She is also fairly fluent in English, able to hold a brief conversation with Mori Calliope.
A-chan is also designed by ordan, and while initially wearing a simple black t-shirt with the Hololive logo printed on it, on May 10th she received a new costume resembling an office lady. Before her model was designed, Sora used to draw A-chan's head alongside her glasses on her streams.
Roboco[edit]
Roboco (ロボ子, Robo-ko, "Robogirl") is a Vtuber, a member of Hololive Japan's 0th Generation, and the second member to ever debuted as a Hololive member. She debuted her first stream on March 9, 2018. Her official bio reads "A lonely, wimpy robot from a random wasteland. She is now hoping to contact and live with lots of people as a Virtual Liver." She is a high-performance robot that is good with shooting games and frequently streams Apex Legends. She is well-liked in the community due to her shy and easy-going personality and sweet voice, allowing her to get along pretty easily with every member. Her greeting before every video, Hello-bo (はろーぼー, Haro~bo~) has become very well-known among the Virtual Youtuber community.
Roboco's artist mama/papa is kuromaru9. Similar to Sora, she exclusively uses 3D models, even when changing costumes such as with her New Year costume. Her birthday is May 23. Her fanbase is called "Robosa" (ろぼさー). Her channel currently has over 620,000 subscribers as of May 2021.
AZKi[edit]
AZKi is a Vtuber, a member of Hololive Japan's 0th Generation, and currently the sole member of Cover Corp's music branch INoNaKa Music. She is not so much a virtual streamer but more of a virtual singer or diva, with her content exclusively focusing on music such as singing streams or music video releases (However, with the merging of every branch under the Hololive Production label, she has started to do more gaming streams with other Vtubers). She debuted with a cover of Dixie Flatline's "Just be Friends" on November 15, 2018. Her official bio reads "A diva who became reborn into the virtual world in order to fabricate a new world. No matter the time, place, or position, she warps through all the barricades with her dazzling talent." She has held multiple virtual concerts, and has released 2 full-length albums. Noted for her affinity with many different genres of music and ability as well as strong singing voice, AZKi is one of the leading music creators in the Vtuber scene. She frequently hosts 48 hour streams where Vtubers from various places and independents can showcase their singing talents through their original songs or covers.
AZKi's artist mama/papa is Kasoku Satou (加速サトウ) who designed her first and third costume, and Kogecha (焦茶), who designed her second costume, also known for illustrating Ayase's vocaloid song "Ghost City Tokyo" as well as many background images for Yorushika songs in osu!. Kogecha passed away in June of 2020 due to an accident at work. AZKi's birthday is July 1. Her channel currently has more than 420,000 subscribers as of May 2021.
Sakura Miko[edit]
Sakura Miko (さくらみこ) is a Vtuber and a member of Hololive Japan's 0th Generation. Initially, she was part of a separate project called "The Sakura Project" led by Hololive's parent company Cover Corp, to have a Vtuber compete with the famous Kizuna Ai back when the Hololive brand was not well-known. She debuted on August 1, 2018, originally doing short comedic skits similar to Kizuna Ai's style. Once the project was deemed to not be working out, she was transferred to the Hololive branch on December 25 of the same year. The transformation into streaming allowed her to express herself more and eventually gathered a substantial fanbase, largely thanks to her playthrough of Grand Theft Auto V. She self-proclaims as an "elite" shrine maiden, which is often used as an inside joke by her fanbase, describing any mishaps she does in games or streaming as an "elite" action. She is also well-known for her baby-like voice and her terrible English skills, which she proclaims as "elite" English (combined with her excessive use of the f-word which she dubbed as "FAQ", even making a parody segment to Coco's Asacoco News as FAQ You News). She is also known for her extreme interest in eroge, a topic that she is willing to discuss for a long period of time whenever mentioned and was even caught opening eroges on stream. On July 2020, she went on hiatus for 3 months because of illness (which she confirmed was not related to COVID-19). On her comeback stream, which was a 3D virtual concert stream, she received a peak viewcount of over 140,000 viewers, making it the highest viewer numbers ever for a Hololive-related stream at that time (since then many other streams has broken this record).
Sakura Miko's artist papa is originally Tanaka Yuuichi ( 田中雄一), known for being the illustrator of A Certain Magical Index and Oregairu light novels (Miko confirmed that her greeting, Nyahallo (にゃっはろー!) is taken from the Oregairu character Yui Yuigahama), and currently ordan (same with Sora and A-chan). Similar to most 0th gen members, she exclusively uses 3D models for streaming. Her name, Sakura Miko, is taken from sakura flowers (cherry blossom flowers) and Japanese miko (shrine maidens). Her birthday is March 5. Her fanbase is known as "Miko-P" (みこぴー Mikopi) or "35-P" ("Mi" and "ko" can be read as 3 and 5 in Japanese, while the -P stands for producer, similar to how many vocaloid producers in Japan name themselves). Her channel currently has more than 1 million subscribers, with her being the 14th member of Hololive and the only member of 0th gen thus far to reach this milestone.
Hoshimachi Suisei[edit]
Hoshimachi Suisei (星街すいせい) is a Vtuber and a member of Hololive Japan's 0th Generation. Originally an independent Vtuber debuting in March 22, 2018, she applied to join Hololive and was assigned to the INoNaKa Music branch on May 19, 2019 before moving to the main branch on December 1, 2019. Her bio reads "A forever 18 VTuber who deeply loves singing and idols. Her dream is to one day hold a live concert in Tokyo Budokan." When first starting, Suisei was very poor and did not have money to hire artists and riggers, so she decided to draw and rig her own model by herself, even drawing and animating the video for her first original song, "comet" by herself as well. She first debuted to a small but dedicated viewer base, which changed once she joined Hololive, where she started to be noticed for her talent and her fanbase substantially increased. Suisei is acknowledged by fans, fellow Hololive members and Vtubers alike as one of the best singers in the Vtuber scene, noted for her strong voice and powerful vocals. Her original songs, such as "GHOST", has charted in consecutive days in Oricon and Billboard Japan rankings, a feat rarely achieved by Vtubers. She is also noted to be extremely multi-talented, being called a "jack-of-all-trades" with professional skills in singing, drawing (creating her own design and drawing illustrations-for-hire for other Vtubers back when she started), Live2D rigging, videomaking, as well as being an extremely talented Tetris player, able to play in the competitive scene and was famously able to keep up with Roy (then the 2nd ranked Tetris player worldwide) for 5 minutes, and once held a stream where she played competitive Tetris while singing at the same time. She is also well-known for her somewhat bloodthirsty demeanor during battle-royale like games such as Project Winter, infamously chopping down Matsuri while innocently laughing, leaving fan to dub this side of her as "Psychopath Suisei" or "Suicopath". She lives alongside fellow Hololive members Amane Kanata and Kiryu Coco in an apartment complex dubbed the "Holohouse" by fans, as well as with her sister, dubbed by fans as Anemachi (姉街) ("Ane" being one of the words used to refer to an older sister) and drawn by Suisei in streams as a girl with pink hair wearing similar clothes as her.
Suisei originally drew and rigged her model herself. When she transferred to Hololive's main branch on December 2019, she received an updated model drawn by Teshima Nari (手島nari) with live2D rigging done by rariemonn. Her 3D model rigging is done by Yatsurugi. Her name, Hoshimachi Suisei, can be roughly translated to "Star Town Comet", with comet being the main theme in her design. Her birthday is March 22, Her fanbase is originally called "Kometomo" (こめとも), or "Comet friends" but is now called "Hoshiyomi" (星詠み), or "Stargazers". As of May 2021, Suisei's channel currently has more than 910,000 subscribers.
1st Generation (Hololive)[edit]
Hololive's 1st Generation (1期生, 1-kisei) is the first wave of talents that Hololive recruited using their generations system, debuting during the period from May 13 to June 3, 2018. On May 28, 2021, a live concerts celebrating the 3rd anniversary of the generation was held, titled "from 1st", featuring the original song "Plasmagic Seasons!" sung by all 5 active members.
Yozora Mel[edit]
Yozora Mel (夜空メル) is a Vtuber and member of Hololive Japan's 1st generation. She is the first member of the 1st generation to debut, on May 13th, 2018. Her bio reads "A vampire girl. Even though she is a vampire, she is not into blood, instead, she loves acerola juice the most." She is noted for her caring, cutesy and sweet personality, but also has a tendency to include lewd content or act lewd during streams. One of her famous moments involves mouth-kissing 2nd generation member Yuzuki Choco live on stream. As a vampire, she opens her streams with the greeting "kon-kapu" (こんかぷー) with "kapu" being a cutesy version of "gabu" which is the biting sound onomatopoeia in Japanese. She was once a victim of real-life harassment from a fan who seems to know her real-life persona, resulting in her going on hiatus for 2 months from April to June 2019.
Yozora Mel's artist mama is Ayamy, who is also a Vtuber herself with a channel amassing 30,000 subscribers where she usually does drawing streams. Her Live2D is rigged by Jujube and 3D by tomitake (トミタケ). Her name, Yozora, can be translated as "Night Sky". Her birthday is October 31. Her fanbase is called "Kapu-min" (かぷ民), or a cutesy way of saying "Kapu-people" or "Biting-people". As of May 2021, her channel has over 500,000 subscribers, with her holding a special 3D concert to celebrate the milestone.
Shirakami Fubuki[edit]
Shirakami Fubuki (白上フブキ) is a Vtuber and member of Hololive Japan's 1st generation as well as leader of the sub-generation Hololive GAMERS. She is the second member of the 1st generation to debut, on June 1, 2018. Her official bio reads "A white haired animal-eared high school student. Although she is shy and mostly calm, she likes to talk to people. She would be very happy if you pay attention to her." She is a fox-girl, though her design makes fans frequently call her a cat-girl instead which she vehemently denies. She is known for her cutesy, high-pitched voice and her frequent reference to Western memes, once covering the Astronomia/Coffin Dance song acapella-style and another time re-enacting the entire "Just Do It" motivational speech by Shia LaBeouf in Japanese, and is dubbed as the "Queen of Memes" by Western fans. In fact, some of these memes are what contributed to the massive exposure of Hololive in 2020, in particular her singing acapella-style the song "I'm Scatman", a video which many fans claimed to be the reason they know about Hololive in the first place. She is also infamous for her extreme spending in gacha games, particularly Fate/Grand Order, a trait she shares with Hoshimachi Suisei. She has a "dark" sister named Kurokami Fubuki (黒上フブキ) ("Shira/Shiro" means white and "Kuro" means black) with her own design being a color-inverted version of Shirakami. In her Kurokami persona, she becomes a cold-hearted, opressive individual with an aloof and mature voice, a complete contrast to her energetic, cutesy Shirakami self. Fubuki's energetic and leadership-like qualities has also led her to become a representative of the Hololive brand in general, with her doing many advertisements and joining many programmes to promote Hololive, as well as hosting two radio talk shows (one with Houshou Marine). Fellow genmate Natsuiro Matsuri calls Fubuki a pillar that keeps Hololive steady.
Fubuki's artist papa is Nagishiro Mito (凪白みと), a popular doujin artist of the doujin circle "white parabellum." Her Live2D is rigged by rariemonn and 3D by Ondana. Her name can be tentatively translated to "Whiteout Blizzard" which Fubuki uses as her username in many multiplayer games. Her birthday is October 5th. Her fanbase is called "Sukon-bu" (すこん部),which is a reference to the Japanese dish sukonbu, as well as the onomatopoeia "kon-kon" (こんこん) for foxes' sound in Japan. Fubuki also has a habit of responding to every Super Chat asking her to be their wife/marry them by calling them "friends", resulting in her Western fanbase calling themselves "friends". She has been frequently leading Hololive in terms of subscribers for a long period of time, and became the 3rd member to reach the 1 million subscriber milestone (after Gawr Gura and Inugami Korone). As of May 2021, her channel currently has over 1,400,000 subscribers.
Natsuiro Matsuri[edit]
Natsuiro Matsuri (夏色まつり) is a Vtuber and member of Hololive Japan's 1st generation. She is the third member of the 1st generation to debut, on June 1, 2018. Her official bio reads "A rookie on the Cheerleading Team. Cheerful and affectionate, her pleasant attitude means she gets along with everyone. She has a lot of friends, and loves festivals and events." She is known as a cheerful, hyperactive girl, with many introverted Hololive members recounted being very surprised by Matsuri's friendly approach when they met for the first time in real life. She is well-known for being very honest and open with fans, and is one of the members that interact with fans the most on social media as well as even voice-chatting with them during games. She harbors excessive love towards fellow Vtubers, especially to genmate Shirakami Fubuki and Nijisanji member Hoshikawa Sara, both of whom she has donated a large amounts of Super Chat money to. She also has a great relationship with Himemori Luna, who she considers a younger sister. Matsuri is also noted for her professional dancing skills that she showcases during virtual concerts. She is also infamous for being a lolicon, even profoundly expressing her love towards young girl that leed to her stream being age-restricted. She states on her Twitter bio that her dream is to become a voice actor, which she was able to achieve voicing the character Gunther in the gacha game Brave Nine.
Matsuri's artist papa is Minamura Haruki (皆村春樹). Her Live2D is rigged by tou_ilie (入江燈). Her name can be tentatively translated to "Summer Color Festival". Her birthday is July 22. Her fanbase is called "Matsurisu" (まつりす) (combining "Matsuri" with "Listeners" (リスナー, Risunā)). As of May 2021, her channel has more than 970,000 subscribers.
Aki Rosenthal[edit]
Aki Rosenthal (アキ・ローゼンタール) is a Vtuber and member of Hololive Japan's 1st generation. She is the fourth member of the 1st generation to debut, on June 1, 2018. Her official bio reads "A girl who traveled from a different universe. She has hyper curiosity and manages to reach out to all sorts of things. Her trademark pigtails float due to some sort of supernatural power." Her name was chosen by Cover Corp's CEO Motoaki Tanigo himself, and she is nicknamed Akirose by members and fans. Her species is identified as a half-elf half-siren. She is known for her cooking skills and frequently streams herself live cooking, as well as doing various forms of ASMR. She also practices belly dancing and wants to become the first ever virtual belly dancer. She is also an alcoholic, at one point falling asleep completely after over-drinking live on stream. She is known to be very hard-working and artistic, composing the original song "Sha-Le-Y" using a completely made-up language which she describe is her native language in her homeworld.
Aki's artist mama/papa is Azumiu Akitake (安曇アキタケ). Her Live2D is rigged by keffiy and 3D by Onda. Her name is written completely in katakana so it does not have a set meaning, though "Aki" (秋) can mean "fall/autumn" while "Rosenthal" is a German and Jewish surname meaning "rose valley". Her birthday is February 17. Her fanbase is called "Rose-tai" (ロゼ隊) or "Rose Corps". As of May 2021, her channel has more than 500,000 subscribers.
Akai Haato[edit]
Akai Haato (赤井はあと) is a Vtuber and member of Hololive Japan's 1st generation. She is the fifth member of the 1st generation to debut, on June 2, 2018. Her official bio reads "A sassy kouhai. She is often prickly, however she manages to demand lots of attention from those with whom she has been getting along well. She loves red ribbons and heart shapes and often adds them to her hair and dresses." Haato's character is a classic tsundere, where she refers to her fans as creepy otakus or even pigs. She is known for her cutesy voice and tsundere-like behavior which some of her fans find interesting, as back then Hololive did not have a tsundere character. She used to study abroad in the Philippines and later Australia, and as such is very fond of the English language and tries to use it as much as possible on stream, even declaring herself as "Hololive English 0th Generation" when Hololive English debuts its 1st generation, even using the hashtag #HololiveEN0 on her videos, though she is still intermediate with her skills and is still learning.
Her popularity started to explode around the end of 2019, where she stated that she wanted to be called by a cuter nickname, and develops the nickname Haachama (はあちゃま, a combination of Haa- from "Haato" and -chama, a cute version of -sama, a suffix to refer to respected people in Japan), even changing her channel and Twitter names into Haachama. Since then, her contents started to become increasingly chaotic and sensitive, to the point where her personality drastically shifts from a classic tsundere to a hyperactive, crazy girl constantly shouting her greeting, "Haachama-chama" (はあちゃまっちゃま~!) and refer to herself as Haachama on the third person. As Haachama, she creates contents such as "Haachama Cooking", a series of real-life cooking where she creates intentionally terrible recipes such as burnt gyoza or Coke-and-Mentos stir-fry beef, and in one stream even cooks and eats a tarantula spider. She also reviews 18+ art of herself as well as making lewd ASMR. Her drastic change in personality turns her into one of the most well-known and infamous Vtuber. When she reached 1 million subscribers, she released a series of videos about Haato and Haachama as spilt personalities fighting for ownership of the channel. In September 2020, she was involved in the Hololive-Taiwan controversy, resulting in her and Coco being relieved of their streaming duties for 3 weeks.
Haato's artist mama/papa is Haruyuki (はる雪). Her live2D is also done by tou_ilie, and 3D by ponpucho (ぽんぷ長). Her name can be literally translated to "Red Heart" since "Akai" means red and "Haato" is the romanization of Heart. "Red Heart" is also the name of her currently only original single, sung entirely in English. Her birthday is August 10. Her fanbase is called "Haaton" (はあとん) which is a combination of Haato and -ton (pig). She reached 1 million subscribers in February 10, 2021, becoming the 8th Hololive member to reach this milestone. Her channel currently has over 1,100,000 subscribers.
Hitomi Chris[edit]
Hitomi Chris (人見クリス) was a Vtuber and member of Hololive Japan's 1st generation. She was the sixth and final member of the 1st generation to debut, on June 3, 2018. On June 26, 2018, her channel was terminated and she relieved of her duties after a "contract breach" incident. She is the first member to "graduate" from Hololive.
2nd Generation (Hololive)[edit]
Hololive's 2nd Generation (2期生, 2-kisei) is the second wave of talents that Hololive recruited using their generations system, debuting during the period from August 8 to September 16, 2018.
