List of Revolutionary Socialist Party candidates in the Indian general election, 2014

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) fielded six candidates in the Indian general election, 2014.

In West Bengal the party contests elections as part of the Left Front. In this election 4 seats in the state were contested by RSP candidates.[1] In the Alipurduars seat it fielded incumbent Lok Sabha member Manohar Tirkey.[2] In the Jaynagar seat the party fielded Subhas Naskar, the Deputy Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.[1][3] In the Baharampur seat the RSP candidate was Pramothes Mukherjee, who had contested the same seat in the 2009 election.[1][4] In the Balurghat constituency RSP fielded Bimal Sarkar, a new-comer in parliamentary elections.[1]

In Kerala the RSP withdrew from the Left Democratic Front in March 2014. Disagreement had risen on the issue of contesting the Kollam Lok Sabha seat. RSP demanded to field N.K. Premachandran, former Minister of Water Resources in the LDF government, there, a demand that was not accepted by the Communist Party of India.[5] The Kollam seat used to be contested by RSP, but following the split in the party in 1999 LDF began assigning it to CPI(M) instead.[6] Following their departure from LDF the RSP joined the rival United Democratic Front and N.K. Premchandran became the UDF candidate in Kollam. According to the Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, the entry of RSP into UDF was conditioned by the support of the party to the United Progressive Alliance in the Centre.[7] The action taken by the Kerala branch was condemned by RSP leaders in West Bengal, who reaffirmed their commitment to the Left Front and argued that the tie-up with UDF had not been discussed in the Central Committee of the party.[8]

In Andhra Pradesh the party fielded J. Ramulu as its candidates in the Secunderabad seat.[9]
