List of black metal bands

The following is a list of black metal artists. Black Metal is a genre of Heavy Metal music that originated in the late 1980's, primarily in Europe. It is comprised of at least two distinct musical waves and responsible for many sub-genres. Oft noted for its powerful instrumentation, raw production values, and shrieking vocal style. It gained notoriety, in part, due to its extreme imagery, dark atmosphere, unusual behaviors, and transgressive lyrical topics.
