The Antigua Recreation Ground during a Test match
Three of Gordon Greenidge thirty international centuries were scored at the Antigua Recreation Ground

Gordon Greenidge is a former West Indies cricketer who played as an opener. He represented the team in both Test cricket and One Day International (ODI) matches, making centuries (100 or more runs in a single innings) on 19 and 11 occasions respectively. Described by ESPNcricinfo as "Brooding and massively destructive",[1] Greenidge was well known for his aggressive batting. He was named one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1977,[2] and was among the 55 initial inductees of the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009.[3] Together with Desmond Haynes, he formed one of the most formidable opening partnerships.[4]

Greenidge made his Test debut on 22 November 1974 against India at the Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium, Bangalore, scoring a century.[5] His 214 not out against England in 1984 remains the fifth-highest individual total in the fourth innings of a Test match as of August 2015.[6] His highest score of 226—his final century—was made against Australia in April 1991. Three of his four double-centuries feature in the Wisden's top 100 batting performances of all-time in a 2002 release.[7] Greenidge holds the record for most centuries scored at Old Trafford. He was most prolific against England, accruing seven centuries.

Greenidge made his ODI debut against Pakistan in the 1975 Cricket World Cup. It took four more years to score a century when he made 106 not out against India at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Birmingham. His highest score of 133 was made against the same team shortly after the 1983 Cricket World Cup. All but two of his ODI centuries were match-winning ones.
