Timeline of living presidents[edit]
This is a chronological list of all who served as the President of Mexico and were still living, at different periods in history. There have been two time periods when there was only one living president, first with the inauguration of Guadalupe Victoria in 1824 and most recently during the administration of Porfirio Díaz following the death of Juan N. Méndez in 1894.
There has been one time period when 14 living current or former presidents co-existed. This period was a two-year period from the September 1847 inauguration of Manuel de la Peña y Peña to the September 1849 death of Mariano Paredes.
If one includes future presidents as well as past and current presidents, there have been two time periods when 30 different presidents co-existed. (see Statistics)

Statistics[edit]
- There have been two men who have been the only living president: Guadalupe Victoria (as the first, from 10 October 1824 to 1 April 1829), and Porfirio Díaz (from Méndez's death on November 29, 1894 to 25 May 1911).
- During one period in the History of Mexico, has there been 14 persons alive to have been president. This period was from September 16, 1847 to September 7, 1849 (when José María Bocanegra, Anastasio Bustamante, Manuel Gómez Pedraza, Valentín Gómez Farías, Antonio López de Santa Anna, José Justo Corro, Nicolás Bravo, Francisco Javier Echeverría, Valentín Canalizo, José Joaquín de Herrera, Mariano Paredes, José Mariano Salas, Pedro María de Anaya, and Manuel de la Peña y Peña were alive).
- Guadalupe Victoria was the only person to be both an only living president (from 10 October 1824 to 1 April 1829) and one of six or more living presidents (from April 1, 1833 to March 21, 1843).
- There have been 30 administrations during which a president has not died, the most recent being the administration of Enrique Peña Nieto. This does not include the administration of Venustiano Carranza (who was himself the only president to die during his administration), nor the administration of the incumbent Claudia Sheinbaum, as no president has died since Luis Echeverría who died during Andrés Manuel López Obrador's administration.
- Conversely, only during the administration of Benito Juárez has there been as many as eight deaths during an administration (Juárez in addition died in office in 1872). Only once (during the administration of Porfirio Díaz) has there been as many as five deaths during an administration.
- Carlos Salinas de Gortari, Ernesto Zedillo, and Enrique Peña Nieto all hold the distinction of serving for the longest period without the death of a president during their terms (6 years and 0 days).
- The longest period between deaths of presidents was the 20 years and 276 days between the deaths of Miguel Alemán Valdés on 14 May 1983 and José López Portillo on 14 February 2004. The shortest was the 39 days between the deaths of José Joaquín de Herrera on 10 February 1854 and Pedro María de Anaya on 21 March 1854.
- If the longest period between deaths is to be exceeded, no president must die before 10 April 2043 (the current oldest and second oldest surviving presidents, Vicente Fox and Carlos Salinas de Gortari, would then be 101 and 95 years old respectively).
The second longest period was the 18 years and 85 days between the deaths of Juan N. Méndez on 29 November 1894 and Francisco I. Madero on 22 February 1913.
- Following his administration's end in 1829, José María Bocanegra lived to see a record 46 administrations prior to his death in July 1862. José Justo Corro follows with 33 after his own administration ended in 1837, prior to his death in December 1864. In modern times, the president to have lived to see the most administrations following their own was Pedro Lascuráin with 12 following the end of his administration in 1913, and prior to his death in 1952.
- If one includes future as well as past and current presidents, the record sits at 30:
- Between Porfirio Díaz's birth on September 15, 1830 and Vicente Guerrero's death on February 14, 1831, the following presidents were alive: Guadalupe Victoria, Vicente Guerrero, José María Bocanegra, Anastasio Bustamante, Melchor Múzquiz, Manuel Gómez Pedraza, Valentín Gómez Farías, Antonio López de Santa Anna, Miguel Barragán, José Justo Corro, Nicolás Bravo, Francisco Javier Echeverría, Valentín Canalizo, José Joaquín de Herrera, Mariano Paredes, José Mariano Salas, Pedro María de Anaya, Manuel de la Peña y Peña, Mariano Arista, Juan Bautista Ceballos, Manuel María Lombardini, Martín Carrera, Rómulo Díaz de la Vega, Juan Álvarez, Ignacio Comonfort, Benito Juárez, Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada, José María Iglesias, [[Porfirio Díaz], and Juan N. Méndez.
- Between Manuel González Flores' birth on June 13, 1833 and Miguel Barragán's death on March 1, 1836, the following presidents were alive: Guadalupe Victoria, José María Bocanegra, Anastasio Bustamante, Melchor Múzquiz, Manuel Gómez Pedraza, Valentín Gómez Farías, Antonio López de Santa Anna, Miguel Barragán, José Justo Corro, Nicolás Bravo, Francisco Javier Echeverría, Valentín Canalizo, José Joaquín de Herrera, Mariano Paredes, José Mariano Salas, Pedro María de Anaya, Manuel de la Peña y Peña, Mariano Arista, Juan Bautista Ceballos, Manuel María Lombardini, Martín Carrera, Rómulo Díaz de la Vega, Juan Álvarez, Ignacio Comonfort, Benito Juárez, Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada, José María Iglesias, Porfirio Díaz, Juan N. Méndez, and Manuel González Flores.
- Since the inauguration of Carlos Salinas de Gortari (a period of 36 years, 33 days), there have been at least 4 presidents living, and since the death of José María Bocanegra on 23 July 1862 (a period of 162 years, 164 days), there have been at no more than 8 presidents living.
Oldest living presidents of Mexico[edit]
Not all presidents live to become the oldest of their time. Of the 52 deceased presidents, 19 eventually became the oldest of their time, while 33 did not (including both presidents who died in office and 31 others). Pedro Lascuráin became the oldest living president when Victoriano Huerta died in 1916 and remained so until his death in 1924, for a record 36 years and 190 days. Victoriano Huerta became the oldest living president after the death of Porfirio Díaz, but he survived Diaz by only 195 days.
On two occasions the oldest living president lost this distinction not by his death, but due to the inauguration of a president who was older. Guadalupe Victoria lost this distinction when Vicente Guerrero was inaugurated. Vicente Guerrero lost this distinction when Anastasio Bustamante was inaugurated. Emilio Portes Gil was the oldest to acquire this distinction at the age of 83 years, and 61 days. Miguel de la Madrid, who was 77 years, and 111 days old when he died on April 1, 2012 is the oldest and most recent president to die without ever acquiring this distinction.
