Levi Ackerman (Japanese: リヴァイ・アッカーマン, Hepburn: Rivai Akkaman), also well-known as Captain Levi (リヴァイ兵長, Rivai Heicho), is a fictional character in the anime and manga “Attack on Titan” created by Hajime Isayama. Levi is the captain of the special operations squad within the Survey Corps and is also known as humanity’s strongest soldier. Levi first appears in a special chapter of the Attack on Titan manga called “Captain Levi” (リヴァイ兵士長 Rivai Heishi-cho), published on December 9, 2010.
Appearance
Levi’s hairstyle is short, straight black hair styled in an undercut, and the character has intimidating grey eyes. Despite his short stature, Levi has a well-developed physique due to his use of the vertical maneuvering equipment. Levi is extremely calm, and his neutral facial expression makes it difficult for others to guess his thoughts. Usually, Levi wears his Survey Corps uniform with a grey button-up shirt underneath and his trademark white ascot. He can also be seen with the Survey Corps’ green hooded black cloak when the Survey Corps are on expeditions outside the Walls. Once, due to injury, he was seen wearing a black suit with a white shirt and dress shoes. Most of the time, after the coup d'état, he simply wore his vertical maneuvering equipment harness over casual clothes.

Vertical Maneuvering Equipment
Levi Ackerman excels at using the vertical maneuvering equipment, to the point that everyone considers him the best. Even before joining the Survey Corps, he was considered extremely strong. Some historical accounts claim he is as valuable as an entire brigade. He has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to perfectly control this equipment. He defeated the Female Titan by moving too fast for her to defend—a feat the entire squad, and even Eren in his Titan form, could not accomplish. He even defeated Zeke Yeager in his Beast Titan form, well-known for being Marley’s army’s strongest Warrior and a skillful Titan.
Strength
This character possesses impressive physical strength, evident in his use of the vertical maneuvering equipment. His small stature does not make him weak; his well-built body and heavy musculature make him very strong and easily able to defeat his opponents. Once, he even blocked one of the Female Titan’s attacks, using her hand to launch himself towards her mouth before she could hit Mikasa.
Intelligence
Levi Ackerman has the ability to analyze situations quickly and make calculated decisions in the heat of battle. This ability has allowed him to save himself and his comrades on many crucial occasions. However, Levi acknowledges that he does not believe a person can be right all the time.
Hidden Power
Levi Ackerman is a member of the Ackerman clan, and this is significant because all Ackerman members possess a “hidden power.” Levi awakened a dormant power within himself earlier in his life, which he describes as “knowing exactly what needs to be done.”
Personal Story
Levi Ackerman is the son of Kuchel Ackerman, a prostitute who worked in the Underground, a hidden city beneath the surface, and was impregnated by one of her clients. Kenny Ackerman, Kuchel’s older brother, came to this city only to discover she was dead. In the house, he found a young Levi sitting next to his mother’s bed. Kenny decided to take care of him. He educated Levi as best he could: teaching him knife skills, social skills, and violent behavior. Levi also managed to use his own hidden power as a member of the Ackerman clan. After a long time, Kenny taught Levi everything he knew. However, Kenny did not consider himself a good father figure. One day, in the Underground city, Levi won a fight easily and realized that Kenny had decided to leave him. Kenny believed Levi had the skills he needed to survive. Later, Levi became a thug in the Underground but eventually left to join the Survey Corps. Although he clashed with Erwin, he became one of his most trusted men.
