LivingWriter or Living Writer is a web based novel writing software and word processor developed by the company, LivingWriter LLC (LW) for novelists and authors. It was initially released on September 21, 2018 for Web and March 28, 2020 for iOS and Android through private funding.[1] It has been reviewed by writers and bloggers as one of the best writing apps for authors and novelists.[2]
LivingWriter states that the purpose is to help writers "start your book, plot your book, write your book, organize your book, and export it for publishing all in one place."[3] LivingWriter primarily functions in the cloud and is web based, but with accompanying iOS and Android versions.[4][5]
The core components of this writing app, unlike other writing apps, is the ability to use pre-defined templates to start a story and story elements. The story elements on LivingWriter show up as you type, similar to an auto-suggest input on IDE's.[6] The lack of a desktop/offline version has been subjected to some criticism as well as the lacking of screenwriting options.[7]
