Living Meme

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

A living meme is very similar to just a regular Internet meme, the only difference is that a living meme is still alive. When "alive" is said, it directs to the fact that people are still using it. A meme is a concept, catchphrase or byword that spreads from person to person. For older Internet memes that are not used anymore they would be called "dead memes" because most people have stopped using them.

Most people on the internet use living memes as jokes to make other people laugh. This creates a huge amount of people wanting to join in the fun. They are shared over multiple social media sites: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc...

4chan is a website know for creating and sharing memes. Almost all of the recent feeds will have living memes on it. There were studies tracing the role of memes as capital by inspecting instances in which there use resulted in condemnation for not following the community’s etiquette. Their analysis revealed three main motivations for such condemnation: alleged misuse of meme templates, disputes over the framing of particular units as memes, and reliance on memes prevalent in other communities.
