Loco (esports platform)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Loco is a gaming entertainment company, headquartered in Mumbai. The platform was originally launched in 2018 in six languages.[1]

In 2022, the Indian version of PUBG Mobile, BGMI was pulled from Google's Play store in compliance with a take-down order by the Government of India.[2] The game was launched in 2021 a year after the ban of PUBG in the South Asian market[3] and banned over allegations of the game collecting sensitive user data.[4][5]

History[edit]

Loco was co-founded by Anirudh Pandita and Ashwin Suresh, who first met in 2006 when they were roommates at the UIUC.[6]

Ashwin worked for Junglee Pictures, while Anirudh had returned to India after his MBA at Wharton.[1] In 2013, they co-founded with a third partner Pocket Aces.[7]

Loco, formally known as Showtime, was acquired by Pocket Aces in 2018 and relaunched as Loco.[8][9]

In 2021, the company was hived off into a separate entity after a $9 million round from Krafton Inc.[10][11]

In March 2022, the company received $42 million in series A funding round.[12]
