Looks Are All You Need (顔さえよければいい教室 Kao Sae Yokereba Ii Kyōshitsu) (abbreviated as 'saekere') is a Japanese light novel series written by Ghost Mikawa and illustrated by necömi. The series began publication by Fantasia Bunko imprint in June 2022, licensed in North America by Yen Press.[1]. A manga adaptation by Mahcdai began serialization online in KADOKAWA's Shonen Ace Plus in April 2022[2]
Premise[edit]
Set at a top private performing arts academy in Japan, Ryouran High School, split into five departments (music, dance, fashion, acting, and creatives). Shika Ikebukuro is scouted to join the school, as an emerging online singer, where her arrival sprouts a fierce battle for popularity amongst the students. The school is unique in that students marks are given based on the engagement of their posts, as well as their appearance. To succeed in this classroom, looks are all you need - but will Shika be able to transgress this rigid structure and succeed with just her singing talent?
Characters[edit]
- Shika Ikebukuro (大星 明照 Ikebukuro Shika)
- Initially living as a hikikomori with no life skills and reliant on her older brother Gakuto, she has an outstanding singing ability yet no appearance production skills and is present online as the virtual singer 'Seeker'. Her talent leads her to being scouted at Ryouran High School.
- Gakuto Ikebukuro (池袋 楽斗 Ikebukuro Gakuto)
- Shika's older brother, living a comfortable life as a NEET due to being laid-off, though half-heartedly joins the school with his sister once she was scouted, himself under the guise of a self-styled manager. He has exceptional search skills, using this to prepare information for his sister in a quick fashion.
- Erio Shibuya (渋谷 エリオ Shibuya Erio)
- A well-known figure in the music department of the school, she is an up-and-coming prodigy singer with a powerful voice and sophisticated looks, singing online as the 'Six Octave Diva'. She is aware of the threat that Shika poses, who has been attracting exceptional attention ever since she was scouted.
- Io Kanda (神田 依桜 Kanda Io)
- A super charismatic 3rd year, a prodigious actress who played leading roles in films and TV dramas. She appears stoic and highly professional, though in private she is more of a loose cannon, using her curiosity to uncover the talent of the Ikebukuro siblings.
- Mana Akihabara (秋葉原 麻奈 Akihabara Mana)
- A self-proclaimed composer who is yet to complete a song, and is showing no signs of working on a song. A highly professional student who has skipped a grade to enter the school which she knows much about, including its secret affairs.

It is published by Fantasia Bunko, with the first volume being released on 17 June 2022; two volumes have been released as of July 2023. The series is licensed in North America by Yen Press, with the first volume being translated and published to date.
