Loretta Clawson is the former mayor of Boone, North Carolina. Clawson was first elected in 2005, and was re-elected to additional 2-year terms in 2007 and 2009. She chose not to run in 2013.[1]
In 2008, Clawson endorsed Barack Obama for President, becoming one of the first mayors in North Carolina to do so. The endorsement came three months ahead of the May 6 North Carolina Democratic Primary between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
In 2012, Clawson was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by the state of North Carolina, in honor of her 48 years of public service.[2]
