Ludovic Le Moan is a French businessman, CEO of Sigfox, an IoT network provider.[1][2][3] Before Sigfox, Ludovic Le Moan led several French businesses, such as Goojet and Anywhere Technologies.
Career
Le Moan graduated with a Certificat d'aptitude professionnelle (CAP) in woodturning, and later from the École nationale supérieure d'informatique et de mathématiques appliquées de Grenoble with an engineering degree.[4][5]
Dubbed the "100 million man", Ludovic Le Moan co-founded SIGFOX, and has been its Chief Executive Officer since December 2010.[5] His previous roles included founder, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Technology Officer of Scoop.it (now Scoop.it) until November 2010; CEO of Anyware Technologies (sold to Wavecom in 2007); and manager of COFRAMI Group. He left COFRAMI to create Anyware Technologies. He also founded GOOJET (now Scoop.it).[4] In December 2015, Le Moan was named Le Monde Informatique IT personality of the year, alongside Gilles de Richemond.[6]
Sigfox
Together with Christophe Fourtet, Le Moan co-founded Sigfox, based in Toulouse, in 2009. The company aims to provide the infrastructure and capabilities for an Internet of Things network. Specifically, it provides narrow-band low-energy transmission capabilities (M2M communications) for objects ranging from washing machines to cars. Sigfox coverage in France and Spain is complete, via approximately 1300 antennas in each country.[7] As of 2015, the company operated in several countries and covered an area of over 1,000,000 square kilometers in Europe.[8][9] The company connects seven million objects in France alone.[10]
Following its recent 2014-2015 funding round, which raised $115 million (following an initial €27 million round),[11] it announced a partnership with Samsung and plans for an IPO in 2016.[7][8] Describing the company as the "Twitter of telecoms," Le Moan believes Sigfox will become a global standard in short-message communication.[12][13][14] In a conversation with PCWorld, Le Moan stated his preference to build its own US network rather than seeking a local partner, focusing on major US cities initially. He also noted that applications would include connecting gas, electricity, and water meters, security systems, and pet, bike, and car tracking devices.[15]
