Lumenis (in Latin: Light of Life) is the largest worldwide manufacturer of medical laser equipment,[2] with the applications ranging from the field of ophthalmology to aesthetic and surgical devices. The company is headquartered in the Yokneam Industrial Park in Yokneam, Israel. The subsidiaries are located in the United States in San Jose, California and Salt Lake City in Utah. History[edit]

The company was founded in 1991 under the name E.S.C. – Energy Systems Corporation Ltd. However, in 2001, after the acquisition of an Israeli company ESC Medical Systems, and American Coherent Medical Group for $203 million. Due to problems with the financial statements in 2004, the company shares were removed from quotation on the stock exchange NASDAQ.[5] In 2006, in exchange for an investment of $120 million, 75% of Lumenis stakes were sold to two private Israeli companies, LM Partners LP and Ofer Hi-Tech Group.

In February 2014, under new management, Lumenis went public again by listing on the NASDAQ Global Select Market under the symbol "LMNS".[6]
