Manadath Abdul Hameed Abdul Khader (9 January 1944 – 22 August 2003) was an Indian civil engineer, and businessman.[1] He holds the distinction of being the first member of the Mappila community to graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.[2][3][4]

Biography[edit]

Abdul Khader was born to M. M. Abdul Hameed, a notable Aluva industrialist, as the first of three sons.[5]

In 1967, Khader became a director of Mackar Pillay & Sons Limited, one of the largest trading firms in the State of Kerala. The company was the first to challenge the monopoly of British trading firms in the Malabar coast by directly exporting essential oils.[6]

After graduating from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 1967, Khader passed an opportunity to pursue a master's degree at the University of California, Berkeley,[4][7] and instead chose to start his career in Kerala.

Career[edit]

Abdul Khader founded Khaders International Constructions Limited, a public limited company headquartered in Cochin that was one of the first Kerala construction firms to win contracts outside India.[8][9][10] Khaders International was wound up in 1999.

Personal life[edit]

Abdul Khader married N. Meherunissa Begum, a daughter of Aluva agriculturalist A. Nagoor Rawther. He has three children.
