Michelle Jones is a character portrayed by Zendaya in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film franchise, based on the Marvel Comics character Mary Jane Watson, and is known commonly as MJ. She is a student at Midtown High, Peter Parker's school. She is one of Peter's best friends, and after Liz Toomes leaves Peter, Michelle and Peter start a romantic relationship. Michelle is snarky and coy, but also kind and friendly. She often acts as the voice of reason, and she provides the troubled Peter with much-needed comfort and advice. As of 2019, the character has appeared in 2 films of the series.
