The Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Academy of International Studies (Hindi: एमएमएजे-अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अध्ययन केंद्र) is an academy at the Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.[1] It is known for research and instruction in politics, international relations and area studies. Currently, the academy offers Doctoral Degree (PhD) in International Studies, Master's Degree (M.A.) in 'Politics: International and Area Studies' and Certificate courses in Uzbek and Chinese.[2][3] MPhil degree in International Studies was also offered until recently. Along with academic programs, the academy has occupied a central place in the university for constituting various chairs and programs concerning different areas of the Third World.[4]
History[edit]
The academy was established in 1988 as the Academy of Third World Studies through the vision of then Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi.[5] The establishment of academy came at a time when the concept of the Third World, particularly with regard to decolonization and democratization was very strong in the '70s and 80's. In 1993, the Academy became a permanent center of the university.[6]
