Margaret Skok

Margaret Skok (born in Winnipeg, Canada) is a former Canadian diplomat and ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan serving from September 2006 to October 2009.
Education and early life[edit]
Skok was born in Winnipeg, Canada to Anatol and Elizabeth Skok (born Korolkiewicz).
She graduated high school from Lisgar Collegiate Institute and continued her education at Carleton University (NPSIA) where she is also a Senior Fellow.
Early carreer[edit]
Her federal carreer began with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canada Employment and Immigration, and Parks Canada, working in Ottawa and Montreal.
She joined the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in 1981, explicitly working in the international area of policy and negotiations. And in 1987, she joined Agriculture Canada’s international team, as an international marketing officer, and International Trade Policy Officer.
During her time with Agriculture, between (1990-1994), she served with the Department of External Affairs and International Trade, and at the Canadian embassy in Moscow, charged with the inspection and management of Canada’s agriculture relations and trade with the USSR, and the former USSR.
Upon her return to Ottawa she consequently joined the Department of Canadian Heritage in 1995 to respond to emerging international files in the cultural development sector, and worked as the Department's Director for Trade and Investment Development in 1998.
Retirement[edit]
Since her retirement from the Canadian public service, she consults to the Canadian government, as well as to the private and public sectors.
In particular, she has worked with Canada’s nuclear regulator to expand an international nuclear strategy, engaged as an accredited Canadian observer to elections in Belarus and Ukraine.
