The Michigan State University (MSU) Science Festival is an annual science festival beginning in 2013..[1]. The festival is organized by Michigan State University every year during the month of April. It is the first and only science festival of its kind in the state of Michigan [2]. Events have taken place on the campus of MSU and in more recent years, across the state of Michigan[3][4][5].

The festival's purpose is to be a free celebration of science [6] and was created after founder Renee Leone attended the Cambridge Science Festival in the UK[7].

Featured events have included speakers such as theoretical physicist Brian Greene[4], NPR's Robert Krulwich [8], NASA Astronaut Josh A. Cassada[9], National Geographic submarine pilot Erika Bergman[9], and more.

The first Festival in April 2013 had 11,000+ attendees spanning 150 presentations across 10 days[10]

The first Statewide Astronomy Night (SWAN) was launched in 2016, with planetariums and observatory partners across Michigan hosting events all on the same night celebrating astronomy.[7]

In 2019, there were over 200 events that took place April 5-20 as part of the MSU Science Festival[11]

As a Science Festival Alliance member[12], the MSU Science Festival is part of a group of science festival across the US networking with each other.
