MTV 00s is a music television channel featuring music videos from the 2000s. It was broadcast in a test mode from May 29 to June 22, 2020 in the United Kingdom, as a temporary rebrand of MTV OMG. It was launched on August 1, 2021 replacing VH1 Europe.[1] The first video played on this channel was "Disturbia" by the Barbadian singer Rihanna. On the first day of broadcast, the VH1 on-screen graphics (including idents) was kept, but on the following day it was changed to its own graphics.[2]
Unlike other MTV related shows (80s and 90s), MTV 00s does not display the album in which the song is included in.
History[edit]
Before launch[edit]
On September 6, 2014, a program featuring music videos from the 2000s "Sounds Of The 00s" appeared on VH1 Classic Europe. In April 2015, VH1 Classic Europe started broadcasting a marathon of 2000s music videos - "Nothing But The 00s", which aired every three weeks - on weekends. On January 10, 2018, another program appeared on VH1 Classic Europe - "00s Boys vs 00s Girls". At the end of June 2018, all of these programs were cancelled. On October 1, 2018, "Sounds Of The 00s" was renamed to "Nothing But The 00s".
On June 5, 2021, MTV 00s predecessor, VH1 Europe, started to introduce more singles from the 00s era, and adapted its programming towards it. At the end of its broadcast on August 1, 2021 - the 40th anniversary of MTV - VH1 Europe ceased its regular programming, and broadcast only 00s singles.
After starting[edit]
From May 29 to June 22, 2020, MTV 00s was broadcast temporarily replacing MTV OMG (taking into account the announcements of MTV UK, British advertising and TV shop from 04:00 to 06:00 GMT). Since August 2, 2021, this channel broadcasts around the clock, replacing VH1 Europe.
