MX3 Natural Supplements
MX3 Natural Supplements is a Philippine brand of dietary supplements, manufactured and distributed by DMI Medical Supply Company, Inc. The brand's products are primarily based on the pericarp of the mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) fruit.[1]
The products are registered with the Philippine Food and Drug Administration as food supplements and are legally required to bear the label "No Approved Therapeutic Claims".[2] The brand has a significant market presence in the Philippines, holding an estimated 7% market share of the vitamins and dietary supplements market, according to 2023–2024 data from Euromonitor International.[3]
History
DMI Medical Supply Company, Inc., the company behind the MX3 brand, was registered with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission on June 17, 2003.[3] The company is headquartered in Davao City, Philippines.[4]
The company's business model is centered on processing the pericarp (rind) of the mangosteen fruit, a traditional herbal remedy, into a standardized, commercially available powder presented in capsule form.[5]
Products
The MX3 product line is based on Garcinia mangostana.
MX3 500mg Capsule
The brand's primary product, registered as a dietary supplement.
- Active Ingredient: 500mg of Mangosteen Fruit Pulp Powder (Garcinia mangostana L.).[6]
- Other Ingredients: Magnesium stearate and a gelatine-based capsule shell.[6]
MX3 Plus Capsule
A formulation variant registered by the FDA as a "High Risk Food Product," indicating stricter regulatory monitoring due to the addition of concentrated nutrients.[2] It combines the mangosteen powder with Coenzyme Q10 and L-carnitine.[2]
MX3 Coffee and Tea
- MX3 Coffee Mix: A 3-in-1 instant coffee product that contains coffee powder, sugar, non-dairy creamer, and mangosteen exocarp powder. It is marketed as being low in acid.[7]
- MX3 Tea: A tea preparation that includes Pandan leaves, which help to balance the astringent flavor of the mangosteen rind.[8]
Scientific research
The active compounds in mangosteen, particularly α-mangostin, have been studied for their biological properties. In vitro studies have shown that α-mangostin may induce apoptosis in cancer cells.[9] However, there is no clinical evidence from human trials to support the use of MX3 supplements as a cure for cancer.
A small, industry-funded study published in the Journal of Aging Research and Lifestyle (JARLIFE) investigated the effects of MX3 on knee discomfort. The study, which had 12 participants per group, concluded that the supplement provided a beneficial effect.[10] The journal has low impact metrics, with analyses indicating that a majority of its articles receive no citations.[11]
Safety and interactions
Garcinia mangostana has natural anti-platelet properties. Individuals taking anticoagulant medications (blood thinners) such as Warfarin, aspirin, or Clopidogrel are advised to use caution, as combining them with mangosteen supplements may increase the risk of bleeding.[12]
Some oncologists advise against the use of high-dose antioxidant supplements during chemotherapy, based on the theoretical concern that they could reduce the effectiveness of treatments that rely on oxidative stress to destroy cancer cells.[13]
Awards and recognition
The MX3 brand has received several local awards, reported by media outlets:
- Best Health Organic Supplement Beverage Product Brand at the 27th Global Excellence Awards, reported by Sun.Star Davao.[1]
- Best Choice Natural Dietary Supplement (for MX3 Plus) and Best Choice Premium Energy Booster Coffee Brand (for MX3 Coffee) at the Best Choice Awards, also reported by Sun.Star Davao.[1]
- As part of a brand sponsorship, the title of Ms. MX3 was awarded at the "Miss PNP Ganda Pulis 2018" pageant, as reported by GMA News.[14]
