Sipho Phiri (born 21 October 1992),[1] better known by his stage name MacSipho Raymond, is a Zambian singer, songwriter and producer. He is most notable for his online videos that have amassed thousands of YouTube and Facebook views. MacSipho Raymond is a Christian music singer. He started his career as a member of The Heaven Sent Acappella,[2][3] a Zambian boy band. He was a tenor for Heaven Sent Acappella. MacSipho sung tenor for the group from 2011 to 2014, then he went from being in a quartet to a soloist.

Early life[edit]

MacSipho Raymond was born on October 21, 1992,[4] in Lusaka, Zambia.[5] He is one of Seven children of Christopher Phiri, a former owner of Slate Business and Ruth Doroba Phiri, a marketer at Green World Zambia.[6] Throughout his childhood, MacSipho showed interest in Music. MacSipho Raymond began recording music as a child, drawing inspiration from his mother, a singer and songwriter from Zambia. At the age of four, he performed with his church choir. He began playing the guitar at age Twelve. At the age of Sixteen, MacSipho attended Rephidim Institute, from which he graduated High School of his class two years later.

He was a student at Riara University in Nairobi, Kenya. While in University, MacSipho served as Student Representative[7] of computer science and sung at numerous musical events hosted by the University. His lead vocals on the solo project recording critical acclaim landing Him an Opportunity to sing during Mama Graça Machel visit to Kenya.

2014-Present: Solo Career[edit]

As a solo performer, MacSipho Raymond rose to the status of an online personality. He achieved this by recording cover tracks of contemporary singers, from Justin Bieber[8] and Enrique Iglesias.[9] He recorded himself singing in his bedroom and uploaded the videos to Facebook and YouTube. Starting 2014 with 6 cover videos and around 20,000 views on his Facebook page, MacSipho Raymond grew to more than a thousand followers by the end of the year with 44 additional cover videos.[10][11]

On 10 June, MacSipho announced that he officially signed with LMA Records.
