Macknade Manor is a Georgian Manor House on the outskirts of Faversham, Kent. During is X years it has been a family home, a billeting for troops, and a restaurant with accommodation. Since 2000 Macknade has been the location of Reeds Restaurant with Rooms.
Macknade Manor was built in Year X as the farmhouse for Macknade farm. Between YearX and 1999 it was occupied by the Neame family. Both VC-holder Sir Philip Neame and his brother Sir Thomas Neame were born here. The last Neame to live at Macknade Manor was Basil Neame.
In 1999 the house was sold to David and Rhona Pitchford by the Duchy of Cornwall who had recently purchased it from the Prudential Insurance company[1]. The Pitchfords converted it into a restaurant, trasnfering from their previous location nearby in Painter's Forstal where they had been based since 1977. In 2016 Reeds was the winner of the Restaurant of the Year in the Kent Life and Kent on Sunday Food & Drink awards[2]
The three-and-a-half acre grounds include an extensive walled vegetable garden[3].
Macknade faces onto the Faversham Cricket Club[4], known previously as Macknade Cricket Club while it was a club just for the farm workers
