Magic 2.0 is a comic fantasy trilogy of books written by Scott Meyer.[1][2] The series consists of three novels, Off the Be the Wizard, Spell or High Water, and An Unwelcome Quest which were published annually from 2013 to 2015 by publisher 47North. The series follows Martin Banks, a programmer from 2013, who uses a computer file that allows him to alter reality to time travel to medieval England where he joins a community of other computer programmers posing as wizards.

Plot[edit]

Martin, an intelligent but low-achieving data entry worker in Seattle discovers a computer file that controls every attribute of every conceivable thing in the world. He uses the file to alter his bank account balance and is quickly detected by agents of the United States Department of the Treasury. Using the file, he travels back to medieval England to escape custody and live as a wizard. He discovers other computer savvy men and women have discovered the file over the years and have taken similar journeys. He joins their wizard community as they regulate and protect the file from those who would use it to do others harm.

Novels[edit]

Off the Be the Wizard[edit]

Published March 18, 2014, Off to Be the Wizard follows Martin Banks as he discovers the computer file that allows him to alter reality.[3] After learning the basics of the programming, greed gets the best of Martin and he alters his bank account balance, which alters the U.S. Treasury. While being interrogated, Martin flees to the White Cliffs of Dover in the year 1150 and decides to pose as a wizard. In the town of Leadchurch he loses a duel to another man claiming to be a wizard, Phillip, who turns out to be a computer programmer from the 1980s who discovered the same file. Phillip trains Martin to use "the shell," an interface developed to create macros which the wizards use to perform magic. After being initiated into the local group of wizards, Martin must help stop a rogue wizard from using the shell to alter the physical attributes of the locals in an attempt to create a perfect fantasy world.

Spell or High Water[edit]

Published June 17, 2014, Spell or High Water follow Martin and Phillip as they travel back in time to the ancient city of Atlantis for a summit of all magical communities. At the summit, Martin is re-united with Gwen and must help solve the repeated attempted murders of one of the rulers of Atlantis, Brit the Younger.

An Unwelcome Quest[edit]

Published February 10, 2015, An Unwelcome Quest is the final book in the Magic 2.0 trilogy.[4]
