'Magik McCoy' was born in 1987 in a small township called Motetema in Limpopo, Sekhukhune district. Mpho Nkuna, better known as Magik McCoy, started as a fan of rap music and developed an interest in the music industry. He started in 2003 when he was 13 years old, under the influence of a young star by the name of Mzambiya’s music. He produced two albums for the group, MoTown Evolution & Destination Detour, and as well as a solo album called Now or Never.
Career
Magik McCoy joined his childhood friend Khomotso Mashiane, better known as Benzo DaAlmighty, and they both became popular in high school and around the neighbourhood with their music. Benzo left the township for a while and Magik joined a new Hip Hop group called Clear Vision. The group was signed under the record label called Limpshacks Entertainment, which Magik co-owned. He produced two albums for the group, MoTown Evolution & Destination Detour. Both albums didn’t do well due to self-marketing & distribution.
Later, Magik decided to do a solo album after he broke up with the group, due to misunderstandings & decision-making. He released a 12-track album under the same label he co-owned, titled Now or Never.
The Now or Never album became the most popular album around Sekhukhune and other parts of Mpumalanga Townships with a hit single, REBATLA O JIVA, which was on rotation for weeks on SK FM. You Ain't Going Home Tonight became a top 30 hit and ended up at No: 1 for 3 weeks on the MOUTSE Community radio station.
And the streets were yelling BEEMA as the biggest song on the album. He released a music video for Mrs Magik on YouTube and caught some ladies’ attention with the video. The album was sold out in about +- 8 months; it was the biggest project of the company since it started. Magik McCoy gave up the album due to the greediness of the company he was signed to and decided to end his career with the company. Later he registered a new company in his name, RATED EMPIRE, and signed himself and his childhood friend Benzo. His record label started selling music online.
He released a new single titled Rebatla O Jiva 2.0 and he got respect from the streets and a lot of people from Cape Town, Jozi, Pretoria, Durban, Polokwane & outside the country responded positively to the single. He performed at the biggest event in Motswako in Motetema alongside King Monada, Moshoza, Pitch Black Afro, Dj Tira & Dr Malinga. And also worked with the likes of Sly Yohighness, Shark Razor, Jay Marcus V, Tumi Makang, Katlego Sax, Lava D, Grim Lavadon, Maal Vleis.
Later he released another single titled Rebatla O Jiva 2.0 Featuring Maal Vleis, and shot a music video at Motswako lounge and waterpark. The song is a sample of the great Sbu Ntangase, which made Magik McCoy popular and allowed him to work with a lot of artists in the music industry.
After the release of the song Rebatla O Jiva 2.0, he filled the place of Gelado, affiliated with Twitter guru Hermaine M and his accomplice Mr Triggerman. The event made Magik McCoy fall deeply in love with the music business.
Now he’s working on a tour with Benzo called TillWeDropTour, which will boost upcoming musicians by giving them a platform to change their lives through art. Magik McCoy is a guy with a lot of dreams to change lives, the reason he’s doing this is, he grew up without a father and that disturbed him when he was growing up. His life is just music and it will forever remain. He calls himself Hood King.
He has a lot of people on the streets looking up to him as a record producer/ rapper. He speaks his mind and does whatever comes to mind if it won’t hurt anyone.

Magik McCoy decided to feature Slam Twice on the song to embrace Kwaito music and move the culture forward since the industry forgot about it. The song is a fusion of Kwaito & Hip-Hop/Rap. He calls it KWAITRAP music, which is a new genre that is not in the industry now. Num8er 1 Knox Man is currently getting a positive vibe since it was dropped. And Magik McCoy is working on new music, so lookout for that.
