Magister is a Dutch-language, internet accessible administration software, student tracking system and learning management system (LMS) for schools where student data is stored. Students, parents, teachers, administration, care coordination, and management can get, on different levels, access using Magister to grades, school schedules, homework (calendar), absences, study guides, learning resources, and management information. In 2012 Magister had a market share of 70%.[1]
Before August 2014, usage of Magister on the desktop required the installation of Silverlight, which made the software incompatible with certain operating systems such as Linux. There was, however, a Mobile app available for iOS and Android using which part of the information was accessible.[1] Currently parents and students use "Magister - Ouder en leerling."
Magister is marketed as a Software as a Service (SaaS) by the company, based in Leeuwarden, Schoolmaster which is, since 2009, part of Iddink Group.[2]
After the appearance of Magister 6 various initiatives have been started to integrate Magister in other applications.[3][4] This is possible because this version has a REST API which makes the exchange of information easier.
