Magnifica VR Ltd. is an Israel-based spatial computing company that builds virtual reality training simulators for armed forces.[1] Its three simulators are STEP, for parachute canopy emergencies, CQB, for close-quarters battle, and MAVRICK, for K9 handlers.[2]

The simulators are developed together with the units that use them, installed as closed systems at the unit's own facility on off-the-shelf PCs and Meta Quest 3 headsets, and run by the unit's instructors. Every run is recorded for the debrief and the trainee's record.[1] The company has supplied systems to the United States Army, the United States Marine Corps and the Israel Defense Forces, and holds ISO 9001:2015 certification.[3]

History

Magnifica was founded in 2018 by Brig.Gen.(res.) Moshe Markovitz [he] (former head of the C4I Corps of the IDF[4], and founder of Nircom Systems[5] and Celare[6]) and Ido Markovitz.

The company's first products were C.H.A.T.S. (Canine Handler Advanced Training Simulator), a photo-realistic VR simulator developed with K9 units, and Combat VR, an infantry combat simulator. Its simulation platform won the company several sole-source government contracts, among them C.H.A.T.S. for the IDF's canine units. Combat VR was presented at a conference in the Czech Republic in early 2020,[7][8] and C.H.A.T.S. at the HITS K9 Conference in Orlando in June 2022.[9] C.H.A.T.S. developed into MAVRICK and Combat VR into CQB.

Simulators

STEP

STEP (Skydiver Training Emergency Platform) trains parachute canopy emergencies for airborne and special forces. The trainee stands in the cabin of a C-130, exits on the green light and flies the canopy the unit jumps, the T-11 or the MC-6, over a drop zone of the unit's choice; during the descent the malfunction chosen by the instructor begins, and the trainee handles it with tracked hands. Eleven emergencies are modelled. An instructor console runs up to twenty-four stations on a local network, and every jump is recorded with its verdict, reserve time and reason. STEP was developed with the IDF and its military parachute instructors.[10]

CQB

CQB is a close-quarters battle simulator for infantry and special operations forces. The soldier wears a VR headset and a haptic vest and carries an M4 replica that fires, recoils and reloads, and moves on foot through scenarios laid out to fit the training room: houses, a shop, courtyards and a tunnel, with enemies who shoot back, civilians who react and explosive traps. Two missions in nine phases are included, and seven statistics are recorded for every run.[11]

MAVRICK

MAVRICK (Multiuse Advanced VR Immersive Capabilities Kit) trains K9 handlers with an avatar of their own canine, commanded by voice, hand signals and gear. Five breeds and four canine roles (detection, attack, search and rescue, dual-purpose) are modelled in twelve environments; the instructor builds scenarios with a scenario creation tool, directs them live and replays every run in an after-action review. MAVRICK was developed with the IDF's canine unit and with the US Army and the US Marine Corps.[12]
