Mawlana Maḥmūd Ḥusayn Hātidaharī (Bengali: মাহমূদ হুসাইন হাতিডহরী; 1928–2020) was a Bengali Islamic scholar. He was a khalifa of Abdul Jalil Choudhury Badarpuri and the former ameer of Nadwatul Azkar Bangladesh.

Early life and education[edit]

Maḥmūd Ḥusayn was born on 15 June 1928 to a Bengali Muslim family in the village of Hatidahar in Zakiganj, Sylhet District. He received his kamil in Hadith studies from Sylhet Government Alia Madrasah in 1948. His teacher was Allamah Sahool Usmani Bhagalpuri and Shaykhul Hadith Allamah Harmuzullah Shayda. He was quite close to Allamah Mushahid Ahmad Bayampuri. Husayn saheb received the ijaazat-e-tareeqat in ilm-e-tasawwuf from his murshid Allamah Abdul Jalil Choudhury Badarpuri Saheb.

Career[edit]

His career began as an Islamic studies teacher. He taught at the Jhingabari Fazil Madrasah in Kanaighat. He served as the principal of Gangajal Hasania Senior Madrasa, Zakiganj. He was the Shaykh al-Hadith of Jamia Islamia Faiz-e-Aam Munshibazar Madrasa in Zakiganj and a close companion of Abdul Ghaffar Mamarkhani. Among his students are Shaykhul Hadith Shafiqur Rahman Kishoreganji, Mawlana Shuaibur Rahman Balauti, Mawlana Imaduddin Chowdhury Fultali, Mawlana Abdussalam, Mawlana Mashuq Ahmad Mamdarchaki (former principal of Isamati Kamil Madrasah), Muhaddith Abdur Rahim Bharthakhali, Mawlana Najmul Islam Shaplabagi (Muhaddith of Subhanighat Madrasah) and others.

Death and legacy[edit]

Mahmud Husayn died at 8:33pm on Saturday 17 October 2020. His namaz-e-janazah was performed in the playground of Hafiz Majumdar Vidya Niketan at 3pm the next day. Condolences were given from Mawlana Ruhul Amin Nagari (President of Madani Kafela Bangladesh) and Mawlana Salih Ahmad Shahbagi (General Secretary of Madani Kafela Bangladesh). Husayn saheb had three sons: Mawlana Saleh Ahmad Salik (Muhaddith of Angura-Muhammadpur), Mawlana Siddiq Ahmad and Mawlana Manzur Ahmad Salim.
