Maica Marie Etom Rayaman (May 29, 2000 – January 27, 2022), known professionally as Maica Ramayan, was a Filipina singer, performer and vlogger.
Early life
Maica Marie Etom Ramayan was born on May 29, 2000, in Iligan City. Her mother was a former teacher of Filipino, but she died in 2021. Her father, she has never met.
She finished at Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology, with Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Sociology, from where she graduated magna cum laude.[1]
Prior to Tawag ng Tanghalan and her death, she was the lead vocalist of Echoes Band, together with former Tawag ng Tanghalan Season 3 semifinalist and now The Clash Season 4 Grand Champion Mariane Osabel, but she graduated, and was replaced by another vocalist.
Career
Prior to her joining, she tried to audition for The Voice of the Philippines and The Clash, but she was unsuccessful.
Pre-Tawag ng Tanghalan
Before joining TV contests, she joined Adlaw Sa Iligan Singing Star in 2018, and became the first runner-up.[2]
Tawag ng Tanghalan
On March 9, 2018, she participated in Quarter IV in the second season of Tawag ng Tanghalan. On her first performance, she sang "A Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin, but she lost to the daily winner from Visayas.[3]
Post-Tawag ng Tanghalan
After losing in Tawag ng Tanghalan, she joined Diyandi Singing Idol: Battle of the Champions in September 2021, and was selected as one of the grand finalists, eventually becoming the grand champion.[4][5][6]
Death
Prior to her death, she struggled with depression. Ramayan died on January 27, 2022, due to suicide by hanging.[7] Neither her parents nor her relatives were able to attend her funeral. She lay in state at Mary Venus Funeral Home in Acmac, and was buried in Dalipuga Cemetery in Dalipuga.[8][9]
