Maik Wiedenbach is a German-American fitness coach, author, and former competitive swimmer.[1] He is the founder of Maik Wiedenbach Personal Training, a fitness business based in New York City, and serves as an adjunct professor of exercise science at New York University.

Early life and education

Wiedenbach was born in Radolfzell, Germany. He competed for Germany in the FINA Swimming World Cup.[2][3] He attended Fordham University on a swimming scholarship, earning a bachelor's degree in History.[4][5] He also holds a degree in German Literature and completed a master’s degree at Ruhr University in Germany.[5]

Career

After his academic studies, Wiedenbach obtained fitness certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the American Fitness Professionals Association, and the British Sports Association.

In 2007, he established Maik Wiedenbach Personal Training in Manhattan.[6][2] His coaching emphasizes biomechanics, exercise form, training volume, time under tension, and injury prevention.[7][8][9][10]

He has addressed topics including performance-enhancing drugs, mental health concerns in bodybuilding,[11][12] muscle dysmorphia, and risks of off-label weight-loss medications such as Ozempic.[13][14][15] He has also provided critical analysis of celebrity diet claims attributed to actor Hugh Jackman.[16]

Wiedenbach has authored several books on fitness and training, including 101 Fitness Myths: The Scientific Approach to Losing Fat and Gaining Muscle! (2013),[17] Get Bigger Arms Fast!: Your Ultimate 3-Month Guide to Build Perfect Arms! (2016), and Success DNA: Mastering Persistence in Leadership and Life (2025).

101 Fitness Myths was reviewed by Kirkus Reviews[18] and cited in discussions on fitness misconceptions in Forbes.[19]
