Maila Alog or Maila Cuyan Buaquen (maiden name) is a creative entrepreneur, fashion designer and police officer from Baguio City, Philippines[1]. She is a member of Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Masaligan Class of 2011.[2] Maila and her sister, Aleli, are the first sisters to graduate in the same class in the history of PNPA.[3] She established Carolina's Dress Shop (CDS Baguio), launched MA79 Ethnic & Glamour Wearing Apparel and headed Wilvy Shows Entertainment Productions staging the Ivy Fashion Ball, Philippine Tribal Wears and Tapestries (Habing Katutubo) and Culture and Arts Festival.[1]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Maila is the 3rd daughter of Lovino Acusan Buaquen from Ambuclao, Bokod, Benguet and Carolina Cuyan Buaquen from Baguio City. As member of Indigenous Peoples, her parents exposed her in practicing Ibaloi traditional practices and beliefs as what they did during their graduation. [4][3]

She passed the Philippine National Police Academy- Cadet Admission Test (PNPA-CAT) in 2007 together with her elder sister, Aleli, and became members of PNPA Masaligan Class of 2011[4]. During her cadetship years, she developed editorial and writing skills as a member of Corps Publication Squad being a columnist in Kalasag Magazine. She was also a member of Marathon Squad, Debate Team and Hop Committee. She also became the Fourth Battalion Finance Officer during their final year and initiated making the battalion landmarks inside the academy. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Public Safety and rank of Police Lieutenant at the age of 21.[5]

Her sister, Aleli, who graduated Top 1 of the class is also a lawyer. Their fourth child, Carlo, the only boy, is also a member of PNPA Maragtas Class of 2018 [6]while the youngest, Lirio, is a non-commissioned officer.[3]

Maila passed the Civil Service Professional Examination in 2011.[7] She finished Bachelor of Science in Criminology at De la Salle State University of Dasmariñas in 2012 and passed the board exam by the following year.[8] She achieved her Masters in Administrative Development at Don Mariano Memorial State University.

Generally, she is a self-taught fashion designer but took up online Women's Wear Design Course for more than a year at Milan Fashion Campus from 2019 to 2021 and active in Domestika courses for creatives to enhance her knowledge.[9][10]

Police Career[edit]

More than anybody, it was their father who inspired them to pursue a common career in law enforcement.[3] Her first six years of assignment was dedicated in the field of Community Relations and Investigation in Police Regional Office 1. Some cases handled were drug related cases especially in 2016.[11][12][13]

She advocated family orientation, youth leadership and women empowerment.[14]

In 2017, she was assigned in Baguio City and received a top performing award in 2018.[15][16] In 2021, she was designated as Chief of Women's Children Protection Desk.[17]

As a youth supporter, she was part of the judges for the 35th Founding Anniversary of Abra Diocesan Teachers and Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative.[18]

Creative Career[edit]

In 2017, she established Carolina’s Dress Shop (CDS) at Maharlika Livelihood Complex, Baguio City to house her collections and cater custom made dresses, costumes and apparels which are made to order or made to rent. [1]

In 2019, she co-founded Wilvy Shows Entertainment Productions [1]with her elder sister having the following notable annual events:

1.    IVY Fashion Ball. This is the annual red carpet event of Wilvy Shows Entertainment  to showcase local designers, talents and modelling groups with different theme every year. The first IVY Fashion Ball: Masquerade was held last April 7, 2019 at Venus Parkview Hotel, Baguio City.The second production was held last April 10, 2021 at Hotel Supreme, Baguio City themed as Summer Gothic.[19]

2. Philippine Tribal Wears and Tapestries (Habing Katutubo). An annual event focused in showcasing the authentic tribal wears of different Indigenous People of the Philippines. The very first show happened on October 12, 2019 at Baguio City.[20]

3. Culture and Arts Festival. This is the official festival of the productions annually conducted. The Cordillera-Japan 1st Culture & Arts Festival: Shogun Renaissance was held last November 29-30, 2019 at Malcom Square/ People’s Park, Baguio City. The 2 day Culture & Arts Exhibit 2019 was participated by 18 exhibitors of different Japanese/Filipino products which are culture and arts related, youth groups, NGOs and small businesses.[21]

Personal Life[edit]

She is a homemaker with two kids.[1] Her husband, Allan was her classmate in PNPA and also a police officer by profession.
