Makurdi kidnapping
On 24 April 2021, gunmen kidnapped students from the Federal University of Agriculture in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria.[1][2][3][4] According to eye witnesses three students were kidnapped,[5][6][7] but two students were confirmed kidnapped later. This is Nigeria's fifth kidnapping from an academic institution in 2021, and the sixth since December 2020, coming just four days after the Greenfield University kidnapping.[8]
Release[edit]
On 28 April 2021, the University Director, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Rosemary Waku, released a statement confirming the return of the abducted students.[9] According to the university’s spokesperson, the two students came back on 27 April 2021 unhurt. The Police Public Relations Officer of Benue State Police Command, Catherine Anene, also confirmed the release of the students, although she had initially said that three students were kidnapped earlier in the week.[10]
