Established on 22 September 2020, Maldives News Network is one of the few online English newspapers in the Maldives with over 75,000 readers a month. They currently provide both local and international news in addition to videography segments.
In 2020 Maldives News Network was faced with legal action[3] from the First Lady of Maldives Fazna Ahmed following the publication of an article titled "MNN Exclusive: City Hall- Delta of Corruption", which uncovered a corruption case in the Maldives with possible links to the First Lady. Maldives News Network (MNN) was summoned to the Maldives Media Council[4]
In January 2022 Maldives News Network openly boycotted[5] the Maldives Media Council's plans to provide media training[6] in collaboration with the Government of India, citing solidarity with the members of the Indian press.
