Gossip Mill Nigeria has since been a big success on social media gathering over 980,000 fans on its Facebook fan page alone. Gossip Mill Nigeria is arguably one of the Nigerian websites with the largest Followings or fan base on social media, After Naij.com, Information Nigeria, Sahara Reporters, News24 Nigeria and Talkofnaija its safe to say Gossip Mill Nigeria is the 6th largest news website on social media in Nigeria.[2]

Many have argued that some of the content published by Somto Monanu on Gossip Mill Nigeria are baseless lacking concrete evidence and thereby misleading Nigerians.[3] Over the years Somto Monanu has been accused of been an attention seeker, Osagie Alonge a then journalist of Thenetng wrote a response article to Somto Monanu on an article[4] he wrote about Popular Nigerian Rapper Olamide accusing him and his website of becoming a site for "baseless propaganda" used to peddle lies about Nigerian Celebrities all because of fame and money. Since 2014 Gossip Mill Nigeria has published over 1,000 reports. Both Somto Monanu and the organization have received various threats from individuals whose activities have been revealed on the Gossip Mill Nigeria website.
