The Mandarin Chorus Alphabet (Chinese: 官话字母) is a Chinese transliteration system for Mandarin Chinese and other dialects which is nowadays not in use. It was primarily used to transcribe Standard Mandarin and some varieties of Wu Chinese. The syllabary was invented by Wang Zhao in 1900 after he spent two years in Japan, and was intended to simplify the writing and learning of the Chinese language. [1]
