Manuel Franco Graiwer Piekarski (born March 20, 1943) is a Mexican-American lawyer, known for having played the role of a judge on the television program "La Corte del Pueblo: Juez Manuel Franco", broadcast on Telemundo.[1]
Biography
Son of Simon Graiwer and Natalia Piekarski,[2][3] Manuel Franco was born on March 20, 1943, at 2:35 p.m., in Mexico City, Federal District. His family is of Polish-Jewish descent. At an early age, he moved to California, United States. He studied at the University of California, Los Angeles, with a bachelor’s degree in science, preparing for medical school in 1964. In 1969, he graduated as a lawyer from the University of California, Davis. He was admitted to practice law in the State of California, before the Federal District Court, and before the Supreme Court of the United States in 1970. From 1970 to 1972, he was an associate in the law firm of Minsky, Garber & Rudof. In 1980, he formed the company Graiwer & Goldberg, and later in August 1999, the firm became Graiwer & Kaplan. In 2023, the company was acquired by Boris Vernik and Ronald Jeffrey Evans.[4]
Television
Manuel Franco participated as a judge in the television program "La Corte del Pueblo" broadcast on Telemundo from 1999 to 2004, making his debut on January 15, 2001.[5] Judge Franco returned to record new episodes in 2017. Thirteen episodes were recorded in Las Vegas, Nevada, that were only broadcast in Caribbean countries.[6]
Private life
Activism
He repeatedly participated in the event called Zapatón, in Tijuana, which is based on the collection of shoes for boys and girls, in addition to the protection of minor victims of sexual abuse.[7]
Controversy
In 2024, a woman named Wendy Caravantes filed a lawsuit against him in Los Angeles County Superior Court.[8]
