Marco Lo Russo A.K.A. Rouge (born in Latina, April 27, 1977) is an accordionist, composer, arranger, musicologist, producer, conductor, professor at the Conservatory of Music and also an Italian musician.
Biography
Marco Lo Russo began to study piano and accordion at the age of 11 and started to compose music as an autodidact.[1] In 2001 he graduated in accordion at the Conservatory of Music Gioachino Rossini in Pesaro,[2] then he attended a two-year internship in accordion. In 2004 he earned a four-year university degree in Literature and philosophy, department of Music (DAMS) at University of Bologna.[3] His graduation thesis was on: History of contemporary and modern music: “The Accordion, instrument of the 1900s”. In 2006 he graduated in arrangement and band instrumentation at Conservatory of Music Giovan Battista Martini in Bologna.[4] In 2010 he graduated in Composition at Conservatory Santa Cecilia in Rome[5] with highest honours. He attended many Master classes and perfection courses in accordion, composition, arrangement, conductor, jazz, production and computer music. He is a professor of rhythmic theory and musical perception, writing and arrangement technique, computer music, singing reading and intonation at the Conservatory of Giuseppe Nicolini[6] in Piacenza, and also a professor of accordion at the Conservatory Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina[7] in Cagliari (Italy).
Artistic activities
He started his professional international career in 1997 when he took part in the International festival of Johnny Lombardi in Canada. In 1999 he cooperated with Daniele Silvestri and with the Têtes de Bois for "Il Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo" (the Italian music festival of Sanremo). In 2007 he was the orchestra leader and soloist at the Teatro dell'Opera (Theatre of the Opera) in Rome to prepare the Opera of Maria Galante written by Kurt Weill and directed by Joseph Rochlitz with Chiara Muti. The choreographies were made by Luc Bouy and the music director by Vittorio Parisi. After these experiences Marco Lo Russo embarked on a strong artistic activity as composer, performer, producer and teacher.
Theatre works
From 2002 to 2004 Marco Lo Russo cooperated with Rosaspina Theatre Company, in Bologna. The theatre where the company acts undertook many Italian and European tours with the support of ERT (Emilia Romagna Teatro). From 2005 to 2008 Marco played as a soloist in the camera Orchestra of Aracoeli in the musical comedy "Concha Bonita" (prize ETI2005), directed by Alfredo Arias and with the music composed by Nicola Piovani. In 2011 Marco composed music for some shows such as: “Tamara”, directed by Mario Moretti with Isabel Russinova; and "In Scena", directed by Manuel Giliberti with Mita Medici, and last, but not least: “Cose che contano”, directed by Rodolfo Martinelli with Doriana Le Fauci. All these pieces were performed at Teatro dell'Orologio[8] in Rome. Furthermore, in 2011 he arranged the music and also performed in the show: “Le Italiane” with Maddalena Crippa, Lina Sastri and Tosca, directed by Emanuela Giordano. The shows were performed at Teatro Argentina in Rome during the "Fontanone Estate festival".[9] Marco also composed the music and performed in the show "Smoking Pessoa", written and directed by Roberta Lena. He was co-author with Marco Grossi for the show: “Viva l’Italia” where he composed music and performed at the Centro Studi Marcello Mastroianni in Fontana Liri (Fr).
Works on TV
In 2002 and in 2006 Marco Lo Russo composed and arranged music for some scenes of the Italian fiction “Cento Vetrine”[10] directed by Michele Ferrari and produced by Mediaset, Canale 5. In 2004 he performed as a soloist in the Oratorio "Il Soffio di Dio" for the TV programme: “Palcoscenico” with Lina Sastri and Mariano Regillo as actors. From 2007 to 2009 he played, composed, and arranged music for a musical TV show: 42.12 Mediterraneo d’Europa for TV2000 presented by Sergio Canelles. In 2008 he performed in a TV show presented by Gigliola Cinguetti for Italia RAI worldwide. Also in 2008 he performed in the programme broadcast on RAI 1, RAI Educational and RAI Vaticano, La Bibbia Giorno e Notte to the Basilica di Santa Croce in Gerusalemme in Rome. In 2010 he was the author of the music for the documentary for the 10th commemoration of Fondi film festival. In 2011 he was the artistic and musical director of the TV show broadcast on RAI Storia and RAI International: I Promessi Sposi d'Italia to Save the Children where he also performed and composed the soundtrack. In 2011 he performed worldwide on RAI1 for the XXV Congresso Eucaristico. The congress was presented by Lorena Bianchetti. In 2012 he performed worldwide on RAI1 for the worldwide families day at the presence of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, in the event "One world, one family, one love" which took place at the Parco Nord in Bresso, Milan. In 2013 he performed worldwide on RAI1 in the showing of the Holy Shroud of Turin. And also in 2013 he performed in the worldwide programme "Nel Cuore dei Giovani" on TV2000 in honour of the worldwide youth day, when Pope Francis came back to Italy.
Cinema
From 2005 to 2009 he cooperated with Nicola Piovani, Nobel prize for the best soundtrack for the film "La vita è bella" (1999) directed by Roberto Benigni. In 2005 he performed as actor and musician for the film Matilde directed by Luca Manfredi with Giorgio Panariello and Sabrina Ferilli.
