Mariam Khalique is former teacher of Malala Yousafzai. Mariam Khalique and Malala Yousafzai both grew up in the same neighbourhood and attended the Khushal School and College in Swat, where Miriam is the director.[1][2][3]

After finishing secondary school in Swat, Mariam Khalique went on to college and undertook a bachelor's degree in law and sociology. But, her passion for education pushed her to continue teaching at Khushal School and College, rather than practicing law.

Mariam Khalique delivered a speech at a meeting held by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) in Geneva. Khalique delivered the speech on behalf of the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO).[4]

On 20 September 2013 Mariam Khalique visited PS 116 in New York City Thursday. She spoke to children to mark the release of the UNESCO Education For All Global Monitoring Report booklet: ‘Education Transforms Lives.
