Mustafa Naseem is a Pakistani educator, social entrepreneur and ICTD Expert in Residence at the University of Colorado Boulder’s ATLAS Institute.[1][2][3]

Education[edit]

Mustafa graduated in June 2013 with a Masters in Information and Communication Technology for Development (MS-ICTD) from University of Colorado Boulder on a Fulbright Scholarship. Mustafa earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan.[4] During his Masters, Mustafa received a graduate certificate in Science and Technology Policy and worked at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Verizon's Internet and Technology Policy group in Washington DC[5][6][7]

Career[edit]

Prior to joining CU Boulder, Mustafa was the founding director of the Innovations for Poverty Alleviation Lab (IPAL) in Lahore, Pakistan.[8][9][10] He founded a Makerspace Make-i-stan in Information Technology University, Lahore.[11][12] Mustafa has worked with the MIT Global Startup Labs (formerly MIT AITI) South Africa Program, the Deming Center Venture Fund (DCVF) and the International Development Design Summit (IDDS).[13][14][15][16][17] He organized International Development Design Summit in Lahore in 2016.[18][19] He was a part of the team who developed Sensen.[20][21] He worked for the UNESCO science report about Dengue.[22] Mustafa’s interests lie at the intersection of technology, policy, and entrepreneurship geared towards solving global development challenges.[23] [24][25]

Mustafa got selected by Rolex in 30 finalists for the life-changing award for his project of Water ATM.[26] He has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the ATLAS Institute Director's Fellowship, the Dale Hatfield Research Scholars Award, the Fulbright Alumni Grant, the IDIN Alumni Grant, the Center for Policy Research (CPR) Young Scholar Award and the Design for Social Innovation and Leadership (DSIL) Scholarship.[27][28]
