'Asmarawaty Zaini' (born 24 November 1957), commonly known as Mariko A. Yoshihara, her hobby of connecting people brings her close to more than 500 companies in Indonesia and some other countries in the region. Her motto is Bekerja-Bekerja-Bekerja, as our President Jokowi says, and she always believes that we have to initiate positive movement together for our better future.[1]
Early life and education
Mariko was born in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1967, to a Padangnese father and Japanese mother. With her full interest in Japanese studies, she studied Japanese Literature at University of Indonesia; then took another Japanese study program at Kyoto University in Japan.
Starting from there, her career goals always revolved around how to give impact to Indonesia’s workforce and lowering the poverty percentage in the country.[2]
Business career
After 20 years in the Recruitment Industry in Indonesia, her interest shifted from only profit-oriented to adding more value than just profit for the company, but also for society. Her focus now is more on social impact work in Indonesia; she’s supporting social entrepreneurship and looking to invest her knowledge and skill in the start-up market.[3]
