Mario Bruno (born 10 July 1997) is an Italian flutist. He was born in Melfi, Italy[1][2]. The flutist is most known for his baroque[3], contemporary[4] and classical flute repertoire[5].
Bruno was born into a musical family[6]. As a young child he was always surrounded by music and started playing the flute at a very young age[3]. He started his education in the class of Antonio Amenduni[7], at the Music Conservatory “U. Giordano” in Foggia, where he graduated in 2015, with full grades, *cum laude* and honorable mention[8]. He then studied with Michele Marasco[9] at the “Accademia Italiana del Flauto”, and in 2020 graduated in Master with full grades *cum laude*, in the class of Davide Formisano at the HMDK in Stuttgart[9]. He is currently attending the "Weiterbildendes Zertifikatsstudium Meisterklasse"[10] in the class of Andrea Lieberknecht[1], at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich.
Since 2005, he has enjoyed a very successful career, winning first and absolute first prize in several important competitions such as the International Competition for young musicians in Barletta[11] (where he was also awarded the “virtuosity prize”), the International Competition “F. Rossomandi”[11] in Bovino, the National Flute Competition “Emanuele Krakamp” in Benevento[11][12], the “Koehler Prize” Il Trillo in Florence[11], the International Flute Competition “Severino Gazzelloni”[13] in Pescara (where he won also the “Ernesto Köhler” scholarship[14]), the XLI Musical Execution Competition “Francesco Cilea”[15][16][17] in Palmi.
In 2016 he was recognized by the Cultural Association “Musica Civica” as a “Capitanata talent”.[18], and he won the XX Review of “The Best Graduates in Italy” in Castrocaro[19], recording a CD [20]released with the “Suonare news[21]” magazine. He is regularly invited to play in festivals such as Ceresio Estate[22], Altolivenza Festival[23], 14th Slovenian flute festival[24] and Flautissimo flute festival[25].
In 2022 he won first prize (second not awarded) and the special prize for the performance of a contemporary piece[26] at the 10th. Kobe International Flute Competition[27][28][29]. In the same year he won second prize at the 71st ARD Music Competition[30][31][32]. In 2023 he won second prize and five special prizes in the 77th Concours de Genève[33][34]. The special prizes included the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande prize[35], Rose-Marie Huguenin Prize[36], the Students Prize[35], the Young Audience Prize[37] and The Audience Prize[38].
He appeared as a soloist in numerous concerts and played in various chamber orchestras and orchestras (Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim[1], SWR Symphonieorchester[39], NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester[40], Bach Collegium Munich[41], Orchestra Sinfonica Metropolitana di Bari[1]), always receiving critical and public acclaim, and as soloist under conductors such as Patrick Gallois[29] and Andrea Raffanini[42]. He performed as a soloist in numerous concerts in Italy, Germany[43][44][45][46][47], Japan[48][49], Switzerland[50][51][52], Slovenia[24], and the Netherlands[53].He is regularly invited to give masterclasses[54][29] and to be part of competition juries[55].
Since August 2021 he’s I. Solo Flute at the Staatsorchester Kassel[56][7].
