Mark Sager (born 1957) is a Canadian politician. In 1978, he was the youngest elected official in Canada, having been elected to the West Vancouver School Board at age 21. He served as Mayor of West Vancouver, British Columbia from 1990 to 1996.

Early Life[edit]

Sager was born and raised in Dundarave, a neighbourhood in West Vancouver, British Columbia. His parents, Hank and Shirley Sager, owned and operated a small furniture store in Dundarave where Sager also worked in his youth. He attended West Bay Elementary School and Hillside Secondary School.

Career[edit]

After graduating from high school, he attended the University of British Columbia, where he studied Law. He also attended the University of Hawaii and the University of Provence. Upon returning to West Vancouver, Sager opted to run for public office and, on November 18th, 1978 was elected to the West Vancouver School Board. He became chair of the school board at age 23 following his re-election in 1980. In 1984, he was elected as councillor and, finally, was elected Mayor on November 17th, 1990 where he served two terms. Sager left municipal politics in 1996, opting to focus on his family and law career.

Politics[edit]

In 2018, he ran for Mayor of West Vancouver, British Columbia, where he lost to Mary-Ann Booth by 21 votes.[1]. On May 2nd, 2022, Sager announced that he would once again be seeking election for Mayor of West Vancouver. [2]
