Mark Watkin Jones (born January 1969)[1] is a property entrepreneur and Chief Executive Officer of Watkin Property Ventures. Between 2000 and 2018, he was CEO of property developer Watkin Jones plc.[2][3][4]
Early life and education[edit]
Watkin Jones is from Bangor, Wales. He attended Friars School.[5][6]
His family have been involved in the property industry for over 200 years. Watkin Jones plc was initially founded by Huw Jones in 1791.[7][8][5]
Watkin Jones started helping out in the business at age 12 and by 17 was running construction sites.[7]

Mark Watkin Jones became CEO of Watkin Jones plc in 2000, the ninth generation of his family to lead the business.[4][9]
In 2008, he won the Ernst & Young Real Estate Entrepreneur of the Year award.[10]
In 2012, he led the company’s expansion into the Purpose-Built Student Accommodation and Build-to-Rent sectors.[4]
Under his leadership, the brand went from being a regional developer to a national firm for student halls accommodation in the UK. Since 1999, Watkin Jones has completed 123 developments with 41,000 student beds.[5][11]
In 2016, Watkin Jones led the business through its IPO on the London Stock Exchange at a market capitalisation of £255 million.[5][12]
In December 2018, Watkin Jones stepped down as CEO of Watkin Jones plc. His family remain minority shareholders in the business.[13][14][2]
Watkin Jones plc now has around 700 employees, and the total value of the business’ development pipeline is estimated at £1.7 billion.[15][16]
Watkin Property Ventures[edit]
Watkin Jones founded Watkin Property Ventures in 2018 with other members of his family. The company operates across investment, property finance, and development.[4][2]
Since 2020, Watkin Property Ventures has focused on growing its development finance business. The company provides finance facilities to property developers for different types of property schemes.[2][4]
Personal life[edit]
Watkin Jones lives in Bangor, Wales.[5]
Through Watkin Property Ventures, the Watkin Jones family have made donations to children’s cancer charity Gafael Llaw, Mosaic Food Bank in Coed Mawr, and Hope House children’s hospice in Conwy.[4][2]
In 2019, Watkin Property Ventures also pledged to support a new fan-owned football club in Bangor, CPD Bangor 1876 FC.[4]
