Markus Batchelor (born February 3, 1993) is an American politician in Washington, D.C., the United States capital.[1] A member of the Democratic Party, he has been the Ward 8 member of the D.C. State Board of Education since January 2, 2017.[2] When he was elected, at age 23, he was notably the youngest person ever elected to oversee public education in the District of Columbia.[3]

Early life and education[edit]

Batchelor was born in Washington, D.C. on February 3, 1993. Batchelor attended Thurgood Marshall Academy, graduating in 2010. He attended college at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., majoring in political science, graduating in 2015.[4][5]

Political career[edit]

In January 2015, he was elected to local government as the Commissioner for district 8C04 of the District of Columbia.[4]
