The mayor of Waterbury, City is the chief executive of the Government of Waterbury, as stipulated by Waterbury City's charter.[1][2] The current officeholder, the 46th in the sequence of regular mayors, is Neil Michael O'Leary, a member of the Democratic Party. In March 2023, O'Leary announced he was not running for another term.[3][4]
Prior to 1853, there was no Mayor of Waterbury, Connecticut because Waterbury was incorporated as a town.[5] Since 1853, there have been 46 individuals to hold the title as Mayor of the City of Waterbury in the state of Connecticut Of these Waterbury, Connecticut Mayors, 19 have served more than one term. Following is a detailed list with footnotes for changes of power other than through the standard election process.

Mayoral terms and term limits in the City of Waterbury since 1853[edit]
Direct elections to the mayoralty of the unconsolidated City of Waterbury began in 1853 for a term of one year. In 1857, extended to two years after 1857 the term halved to two years, with no restrictions on reelection. In 2014, the voters approved a four-year term, and Charter of the consolidated City of Waterbury stipulated that the mayor was to be elected for a four-year term.[15]
