Marlon Fick (born April 7th, 1960 in Olathe, Kansas) is an American author, poet and songwriter. He is currently a professor and chair of the Department of Literature and Languages at the University of Texas Permian Basin.[1]

Fick has spent substantial periods of his life abroad: in Pakistan, Latin America, China, Spain and France, the Congo and Mexico City.[citation needed]

His poetry, writes Francisco Avila in the introduction to Fick's The Tenderness and the Wood, "works backwards through religious perversions and discarded shells to its original purity" while his images "sing through raw, audacious, naked mysterious feeling:" Yusef Komunyakaa. The result seems to comprise a worldly and questioning Christian "gospel." (Guernica Editions).[2] Fick's novels are a vivid propulsive engagement with ideology, politics, heartbreak, flights of fancy and language.[citation needed]
