Marta Cunningham is an American director,[1] producer, actor, and dancer.
Marta's first feature-length documentary Valentine Road [2] was selected to compete in the U.S Documentary Competition in the 2013 Sundance Film Festival that was nominated for two News and Documentary Emmy Awards, and later premiered on HBO in October 2013.[3][4] She consequently joined the Sundance Institute's Film Forward Program[5] and the Sundance Institute's Women Filmmakers Initiative in 2013 [6] and was selected for their "FilmTwo" Initiative Program[7] to develop her second feature. In 2014, she was selected for the inaugural Fox Global Initiative Director's Lab.[8] That Autumn, Cunningham produced and directed a documentary short [9] for Glamour Magazine focusing on five women who survived the Charleston church shooting or who lost family members.[10] It screened at Carnegie Hall in October [11] and was given a five-minute standing ovation. Cunningham was nominated[12] for an NAACP Image Award in December 2016[13] for directing the season 3 finale of Transparent (TV series), which premiered on Amazon in September 2016.[14] Cunningham is currently directing an episode of HBO's Insecure (TV series), after wrapping up her second episode of Transparent.
