Marvel Snap
Marvel Snap is a PC and mobile digital collectible card game for Android and iOS.[1][2] The game features a collection of different Marvel Characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.[3] The game is currently in beta and scheduled for a global release in 2022.[4][5]
Marvel Snap is the debut game from game company Second Dinner, a game development studio founded by former Hearthstone developers Ben Brode, Yong Woo and Hamilton Chu.[6][7] The game is published by Nuverse.[8]
Gameplay
Players each have a deck of 12 cards. Each card depicts a Marvel character with cost, powerlevel and potentially a special ability. At the start of each round players simultaneously put a card face down on one of three locations. At the end of each round cards are revealed and special abilites of cards trigger. Whoever has the highest number of power at a given location wins that location. Goal of the game is to win two out of the three locations. The game usually lasts six rounds.[9][10][11]
Characters
Marvel characters or different Marvel locations are added each week.[12] At the time of the beta release the game features over 150 Marvel characters and over 50 Marvel locations.[13][14][15]
Monetization
The game follows a free-to-play-model featuring microtransactions through lootboxes to aquire certain Marvel character-cards or in-game cosmetics. Players are incentivised to gamble for new cards and skins with in-game currency or real money[16], wich has sparked controversy among the playerbase[17] and was called out as predatory by video game journalists.[18][19]
