Marwan Nazih Makhoul (Arabic: مروان مخول), Palestinian poet (born July 2, 1979)[1]. He was born in the town of Peki`, in the upper Galilee, to a Palestinian father and a Lebanese mother, and lives in his native town.

His literary works

Among his poems: An Arab at Ben Gurion Airport, which was published in the first months of 2012 and translated into Hebrew, and an evening poem. A number of his poems were translated into English, French and Hebrew. Among them: An Arab at Ben Gurion Airport, which was published in the first months of 2012, an evening poem, a poem on a Tel Aviv train, a poem Hello Beit Hanoun, and a poem about the picture of Gaza family.

He has published several literary and poetic collections.

  • “A Message from the Last Man” prose book (Self-Issue - The Galilee) – 2002.
  • Contributed to editing “Hamra” an anthology of class poetry (on the Orientation East and Mica Institutions in California) – 2007.
  • “The Sad Land of Passiflora”, a collection of poetry in four editions: (Al-Jamal Publications - Baghdad - Beirut) first edition - 2011, (Everything Library - Haifa) second edition - 2011, (Dar Al-Ain - Cairo) third edition – 2012.
  • Theatrical work: "Not Noah's Ark".
  • “Verses that the poems forgot with me,” in three editions.
  • “Where is my mother” - Dar Al-Saqi.

Grants and prizes

  • In the "Kol Al Arab Newspaper for Young Talents" competition, in 1997 he was awarded the "Young Writer" award.
  • In the year 2004 he was granted a full-time grant to participate in a literary translation workshop from the Helicon Poetry Association, through which selections of his poems were translated.
  • In 2006 (and after the first prize was withheld) within the award of the Abdul Mohsen Al-Qattan Foundation in Ramallah, he won a recommendation for his poetry collection “The Narcissus Hunter” (which has not yet been published).
  • In 2006, the documentary film "The Bride of Galilee", whose poem "The Bride of Galilee" was the main building block, won the second prize of the International Documentary Film Festival in Haifa.
  • For his first theatrical work, "Not Noah's Ark," he was awarded the "Best Dramatic Writer" award in 2009 at the Theater Festival in Acre.
  • In 2009, under the supervision of the Palestinian Writers Network, and within the celebration of Jerusalem, the Capital of Arab Culture, his first poetry collection, "The Sad Land of the Passiflora," won the award for "the best collections of poetry of Palestinian poets all over the world."[2]

Scientific and practical life

  • Preparatory stage: studied at Al-Baqi`a School (1992-1994)
  • Secondary school: studied at Tarshiha Comprehensive School (1995-1997)
  • Postgraduate study: He studied civil engineering at the College of "Al-Mustaqbal" (1998-2001)
  • He works as an engineer and director for a company implementing projects for building public institutions (2002 - present).

Activities and contributions

He publishes some of his poems in various Arab periodicals and newspapers, including: Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper (London), Al-Ayyam, All Al-Arab and Al-Ittihad (Palestine), Al-Nahar (Lebanon), Al-Ghawoun Magazine (United States), Nizwa Magazine (Oman) and Letters of Poetry Magazine.[3]

Makhoul participates annually in international poetry festivals, and in his poetry evenings locally and internationally.

Some of his works were transformed into distinguished lyrical and documentary works, and some of his works were employed in theatrical and artistic works. For example, his poem "The Image of the Gaza People." turned into an artistic work in the field of scenography and shadow fiction, which was directed by the Palestinian director who lives in Germany theatrically. Dalal Maqari, represented on stage by Arab artists from Palestine, Iraq, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya.

He lectures in the field of creative writing as part of the "Great Artists with Young Artists" project, which is a traveling project to nurture young talents across the country.

He revived his poetry evening "Long Live the Country, the Country Has Die", which was attended by thousands of spectators on the stage of most theaters in Palestinian cities. As a result, he was awarded equally with poet Samih al-Qasim in the Palestinian Press Public Opinion Poll, the title "the most prominent literary figure in the country for the year 2011"

He participates in the art program for the Palestinian national and country events such as Earth Day and the Festival of Return.
