Danilova Mariya Maksymivna (Ukrainian: Данілова Марія Максимівна, born April 17, 2007) is a Ukrainian singer, blogger, and interviewer. Host of the YouTube show Danilova Podcast and of the hit parade «НУМ.О» (English: "New Ukrainian Music Online") on a Ukrainian TV channel called MUZVAR.[1]

Musical career[edit]

Maria started singing at the age of 5, and at the age of 12 she began to practice vocals regularly.[2] She applied to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest twice, although the singer did not manage to make it to the final of the contest.[3] In 2021, she performed with her sister at the children's festival «Чорноморські ігри» (English: "Black Sea Games").[4]

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion on Ukraine, Maria has performed at many charity concerts and events, including: «Музика війни» (English: "Music of War") by MUZVAR, an event for children DITY.HELP, a concert at the specialized hospital «Охматдит» (English: "Okhmatdyt") and others.[5] On May 5, 2022, with the song Lucio Dalla — «Caruso», she performed at the Sanremo Junior Song Festival in the city of Sanremo, Italy, where she received a special prize of the Grand PRI «Peace Cup» from the UNICEF committee, and the first prize of the festival in the 13–15 years category.[6][7] In May, she posted a cover of the song «Весна» (English: "Spring") by the band Vopli Vidopliassova on streaming platforms,[8] and on July 3, she posted a Ukrainian-language cover of the song «Молчунам» (English: "To those, who keep silent") by the artist Monatik on her YouTube channel.[9] In August, she released her debut track «Я хочу...» (English: "I want...").[10]

Also, Maria has repeatedly performed at Natalka Denysenko's poetry evenings.[11] In September, she presented the song «Навіщо» (English: "Why") and the music video for it.[12] The track, according to the singer, is "dedicated to today's realities that are happening in our country".[13] On December 30, on New Year's Eve, she released the song «Новорічні спогади» (English: "New Year's Memories").[14] In January 2023, the singer released the song «Лампочки» (English: "Lightbulbs") and the music video for it.[15][16] As of September 14, 2023, the song had more than 2.7 million views on YouTube,[17] and also appeared on the radio several times and was on the 73rd place in the YouTube charts — "Ukraine Top 100 Songs".[18][19] In March, she released the song «Доля» (English: "Fate"), which also appeared on the radio.[20][21] At the beginning of April, the singer became the host of the music chart «НУМ.О» (English: "New Ukrainian Music Online") on the MUZVAR TV channel, which is also broadcast on the NRJ Ukraine radio.[22][23] She is also the host of her own YouTube show Danilova Podcast, on which she interviews and talks with Ukrainian singers, actors and other famous Ukrainians.[24] In May, the singer released the song «Кайф» (English: "Have fun"), and later the music video for it.[22]

In July 2023, the music video for this song was broadcast on the screens of the Gulliver shopping center,[25] which caused a lot of hate, because the media spread rumors about the high costs of this type of advertising.[26] However, it turned out that in fact the screentime for the clip was organized for free: "Actually, the broadcast of the video on the screens was given to the artist as a thank you for her participation in the charity event "For Children, for the Future", which Gulliver held on June 10, 2023, together with dity.help", ― said in the mall.[27] The singer also faced problems due to the popularity of her surname before.[28][29] Also, at the end of July, Maria shared on the Instagram that she was able to purchase a car for the 23rd separate special purpose battalion with the money received from streaming platforms.[30]
