Masih (title)

Masih is the Arabic translation of the Hebrew title messiah, meaning "the anointed one". It is used by Muslims as both a name and a title, for Isa ibn Maryam (Jesus). The word is also used by Arab Christians to refer to Jesus and is also used by Arab Jews to refer to the Jewish messiah.

The word Masih (and similar spellings) appears in Arabic and in other Islamic countries languages although there are different spellings of Masih in many Islamic countries such as Mesih in Turkish and Masihiya in Urdu.
